Group To Meet The Woman’s Missionary Union of the Bapaist church will meet at the home of Mrs. R. D- Gregg Thursday night at 7 o’clock. Mrs. Clyde Smith. Sr., is spend ing several weeks in Savannah, Ga., with her daughter-in-law and son, Capt. and Mrs. Clyde Smith, Jr., who have a new (daughter, Carolyn Ann, born last month. Mrs. Lewis Bass and Dianne spent several days recently in New- berry with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Hilley. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Willard and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Billings near Ware Shoals Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Willard of near Lydia, visited Mr. and Mrs. Claud Willard recently. Mr. and Mrs. John King of Ma con, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Donald McIntyre and Mrs. John White of Shannon, Ga., spent the week-end Mrs. Ellis Given Party On Friday evening in a setting ot a variety of flowers of the early dergarten children in honor of the 4th birthday of her little daughter, Carolyn. Late summer flowers in shades of yellow made the party table a picture. It was centered with a big birthday cake holding pink candles. After singing happy birthday Carolyn blew out the candles and the gifts were opened to the delight of all the children. Girls Officer* Named The Aeowakiya group of Camp Fire girls held their regular meet ing Thursday afternoon with their new leader, Mrs. J. B. Templeton. Mrs. Wallace conducted the busi ness meeting and new officers for the year were elected. Patsy Full er will serve as president, Carolyn Bennett as vice-president, Wilhel- menia Glenn as secretary, and Joyce Todd as scribe. The group is now working on their Home Hon ors and Patsy Fuller demonstrated two kinds of candy she had learn ed to make. She and Joyce Todd served refreshments of cakes and grape punch. “Have Faith In God.” America was sung by the club. After a short business meeting in which plans were made for a party for the Kin dergarten children at Hallowe’en time. Movies fo the children were shown. Kindergarten Group Meets The Kindergarten Mother’s club met Thursday night in the com munity center with its president, Mrs. David Word, president. The devotional was given by Mrs. Floyd during the year, and Mrs. Gaffney 1 Poole who talked on the poem of of animals, Quia Program Sunday Three members of the crew of outside carpenters of Lydia com peted in the contest, ‘The Quiz of Two Mills,” Sunday afternoon over radio station WLBG in Laurens. Three categories of popular songs, a quiz on animals and questions pertaining to the history of South Carolina were sent in by Ralph Harbin and Mrs. Mary Parrish who received prizes. Quinton Jones, a lover of popular music, made 100% on his questions of: 1. Name three songs with a girl’s name in the title. 2. Name three songs with the name of'a state in the title. 3. Name three songs with a flower in the title. He was also honored by the group singing ‘‘Happy Birthday” to celebrate his birthday. Ike Jones selected the category answering correctly which animal carries its young in its pocket and which animal carries its trunk with it. J. D. Fowler answered that a na tive South Carolinian is called a Sandlapper and the nickname of South Carolina is the Palmetto state. • The Lydia sdobed 75 points, Clinton Mills 45 points. A highlight of the program was a talk by Miss Maureen Dicker- son, Regional Advisor of the Camp Fire National Association, who told the story of Bluebirds, and gave the secret of the “Perfume of Hap piness.” All Bluebirds are invited to be present next Tuesday. The new leader, Mrs. Ralph Harbin, will have charge of the group of nine year olds at the meeting.
