Fanca Demonstration At Fair Grounds A model constructed pasture fence has been constructed at south end of the livestock barn at the Laurens County Fair Grounds and is worth close observation as live stock producers are confronted with with the problem of fencing. Appropriate signs are posted on the fence explaining the project. The project was erected under the supervision of Clemson College Ex tension Service in coperation with the local county agent. The Green ville Wood Preserving Company is coperating and sponsoring the proj ect. Attention is called to the setting and bracing comer posts, a set of braces used on a long straight fence line and also the angle the staples are set in holding the wire. Also note that the staples are not driven completely up, tightening the wire against the post. By leaving the wire loose in the staple, allows for expansion and prevents breaking staple. Some farmers drive their staples hard into the wood some and rusting of the wire at the time causing the wire to break at the staple. You will note treated poet and untreated posts of pine and oak— which will show the comparison as to the life of the post for years yet Any person wishing to have de- tialed information of pasture fence construction, may get free at the County Agent’s office, Agricultural Engineering Leaflet No. 71, “Bet ter Fencing for Better Pastures.’’ 1935 i IS A LONG TIME to be disabled; yet that is what happened to a sales man who fell down stairs and fractured hie skull, .fitna paid him $14,795.
