The president. Mrs. Mary Parrish, presided. Mrs Wallace led the devotion stressing six points in the manner in which we should pray. Organization for the year’s work was planned. In teresting phases of the woman’s world were discussed and a four- part program was adopted. At the ; next meeting officers for the new year will be elected. To Present Hobby Show The Hobby club will end its year’s work by presenting a Hobby show at the community center next! Friday artemoon, sept. 14, between the hours of 3 and 9. The public is invited to come and see a dis-, play of the work done. Each mem ber of the club will enter an ex-, hibit. But anyone in the village who has a hobby may enter. You are asked to contact Mrs. Wallace’ for the space you will need. Chines enjoyed were a unique way of reading a receipt, a grab bag on the thought of romance, a bridal slipper arramble and the Wise Old Judge of matters of mat rimony. The library table with an ar rangement of greens centered the plans of presenting the shower gifts. H Finney of Whitmire, who was celebrating her ,70th birthday, a dinner, ‘ picnic style, was enjoyed by members of her family. Relatives attending were from Whitmire and Clinton. Mrs Finney’s son, Earl Finney, al so shared honors with her. Birthday Party Given j Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock Franceen Smith entertained 21 lit- 1 tie friends in celebration of her 9th birthday. Games were played, led by Betty Lou Parrish. Refresh ments were served by Mrs. Horace Smith, assisted by Betty Lou. Out of town guests were Misses Janet Poole, and Brenda Barbee. Each guest presented a gift to Franceen which were opehed and passed. New Pastor Arrives The Lydia community extends a cordial welcome to Rev. and Mrs. Hdmer C. Holt and their family. Rev. Holt is pastor of the Lydia Presbyterian church and he and his family are residing in the residence formerly occupied by the J. H. Von Hollens. Rev. Holt delivered his first ser mon Sunday morning. Services are being held each Sunday at the community house. Birthdays and Anniversaries Mrs. Melvin Satterfield will ob serve a birthday Sept. 16. Mr. Whitmire won a pipe holder and a set' of eight books. The Clinton Mills team came out ( ahead of Lydia with a total of 30! points against' 10. Woman's Club Honors Teachers The Woman’s club entertained the teachers of Providence school at a reception in the community center Thursday night. The lounge and library were attracitvely dec orated in summer Jlowers. The guests were invited into the dining room and served from a beautifully appointed table, which was laid with a white organdy cloth over pink. Tall pink tapers burned in brilliancy over the scene. A cen ter arrangement or pink and white gladioli clustered with rosebuds was prettily reflected from all over the room. From this table refresh ments were served by Mrs. C. A. Gwinn, Mrs. J. C. Meeks, Mrs. H. W. Campbell and Mrs. Newel Bush. Two punch bowls at either end of the table were used. Other members of the club entertained in the different rooms and many parents of the community shared an enjoyable evening with the teachers. Games and singing were conducted by Miss Mary Johnson and Mrs. Wallace. The teachers honored were: Miss Margaret Blakely, Mrs. R. W. Wade, Miss Lou Belle Neighbors, Miss Clyde Smith, Miss Mary Johnson, Calvin Cooper, Mrs. Ad dison Neighbors, Mrs. B. B. Ball ard. Miss Jletcher and W. R. And erson.
