Legion To Stage Street Dance Saturday Night The American Legion will stage a street dance on the square Saturday night at 8:30 o’clock, it has been an nounced. The proceeds will be used, officials state, to help finance the Legion Ju nior baseball club,, being organized here. The Legion post requests the pat ronage of the public in order that a good sum may be realized in their efforts to revive the junior baseball organization. PLUMMER College Yearbook Dedicated To j Korean War Casualty i I Students at Presbyterian college have this year dedicated their 1951, i yearbook to the memory of 2nd Lt. I Alan F. Plummer of Clio, the col lege’s first alumnus to die in the I Korean War. The new PacSaCs are set for dis- | tribution to the student body this 1 weekend, sporting a royal red-blue i cover with a large Block P. The dedication page- ^features a , sketch of Plummer drawn by Wil- j liam P. Jacobs III of Jacobs Broth ers. The dedication is written to; Plummer’s memory and also to the Presbyterian college student body as, it takes on the job that was his— that of rebuilding a world in peace, tolerance, and brotherly love. Lt. Plummer was killed in Korea on July 24, a little over a month 1 after receiving his degree and re-, serve commission from Presbyterian in June, 1950. While here he was ac- jtive in the military unit, a member of the wrestling team, the Block P Club, and an officer of Pi Kappa Phi national social fraternity. 17-Year Old Marines Ineligible for Combat Under New Measure The Marine corps has instituted added precautionary measures de signed to insure that personnel not, having attained their eighteenth | birthday will not be ordered to duty | in a combat area. Those young men that enlist at the age of 17 will have entered in their ^ service record books that they are ineligible for assignment to duty in a combat area or to duty with any organization,, including ships’ detach ments, which have been alerted for a move to a combat area. The Marine corps, however, is still enlisting men, 17 to 28 years of age inclusive. These men have a choice of a three or four-year enlistment in the regular Marine corps or they may enlist for an indefinite tour of active duty in the Marine corps reserve. Staff Sgt. L. D. Tanksley, of the Marine recruiting office in Green ville, will be at the local post office each Monday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to interview any men who would like to enlist in the Marine corps. Six-Team Softball League Organizd Here, Play Started Tuesday Play got under way Tuesday night j in a six-team softball league organ-; ized here during the past week. Teams will play Tuesday, Thurs day and Friday nights at Florida Street school field. Two games will be played each night, beginning at 7:30, with the second game immedi ately after the first. Teams in the league are Lydia Mill, Clinton Mill, National Guard, First Presbyterian church. First Bap- I tist church, and Broad Street Metho dist church. Jeanes will sympathize wdth her in the death of her brother, Thomas Stuart Plowden, 68, which occurred Monday after noon in Greenwood following a criti cal illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held Tues day afternoon from a Greenwood fu neral home, with interment follow ing in Edgewood cemetery.
