MRS. CECIL O’DELL Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bolick and family were called to Newberry last week due to the death of the lat ter's brother-in-law, Rozelle Tinner- man. Mr. and Mrs. William Boyd at tended the Boyd-Ballenger wedding in Greenville at Monoghan Baptist church Saturday. Mrs. Thomas Motes visited Ret. Thomas Motes at Fort Jackson Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Rayford Smith of At lanta, Ga., visited relatives last week-end in Joanna. Mrs. Smith’s mother, Mrs. John Lewis, returned home with her daughter for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lowman, Jr. and son of Greenwood were Sunday guests of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lowman Sr. Paul Curt Streetman, 2nd class, of Newport, R. I. is spending a short furlough with his mother, Mrs. Nora Bell Streetman. On Sunday the Streetman’s had the following din ner guests. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Payne of Athens, Ga., Miss Mary Mason. Mr. and Mrs. Will Mason, and Mrs. R. C. Franklin of Bonds Cross roads. Mrs. J. W. McCain. Mrs. Roy Liv ingston, Mrs. # W. G. Puckett and Lu mas Puckett of Greer were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Rolf Clarke. Mr and Mrs. Hayne Willingham spent Sunday in Lexington with Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Corley, Mrs. Eliza beth Hendrix, the latter’s mother, returned home with her. Mr and Mrs. Carl Turner of Nine ty Six were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Willingham. Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Surprise Birthday Dinner Mr. and Mrs. John Gaskin were honored with a joint birthday din ner on Sunday at their home. The oc casion came as a complete surprise and was given by their daughter, Mrs. Buford Weir. Dinner was serv ed family style. Those attending and enjoying this fellowship were: Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Gaskin and Robert of Clinton. Mrs. Sallie Crocker, Miss Carolyn Crocker of Whitmire, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fanner and children Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Prater, Mr. and Mrs. Buford Weir and Miss Faye Gaskin. Birth Announcements Brown Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Browm an- | nounce the birth of a daughter, Car- lolyn Michele, at Newberry county hospital, Nov. 29. Mrs. Brown is the former Miss Polly Rook of Enoree. Junior Party Given Mr. and Mrs. Hack Prater enter- : tained the members of the former’s Sunday School class at their home on the highway Tuesday evening. A; number of games in keeing with the I holiday season were enjoyed. Each 1 member had drawn names, and under the beautifully decorated tree w r as a gift for every member. Later in the evening, Mrs. Prater served open face sandwiches, cookies and hot chocolate. Favors for the party were attractive waxed pongs.! Card of Thanks With so much kindness, thank you,; sounds so small. But with sincere thanks I say it with all my heart to the nurses, Dr. McFadden, and each one who had even the smallest part in making my illness hghter. The cards and flow’ers were lovely. MRS. ROLFE CLARKE. With The Sick Those being treated at Joanna Memoriarl hospital this week are Mrs. Browm, Mrs. Bertha Evans, George Frady and Albert McCumber. Mrs. Dolly Prater suflfered burns on her body last Tuesday when her clothing caught from an open fire. Mrs. J. M. Ross was confined to her home several days last week due to illness. Mrs. Joe J. Terry, Jr. is ill at her home io the apartments. Annual Christmas Party One of the many Christmas parties to be enjoyed this season was the annual get-to-gether of the Ladies Ever-Ready class and the Woman’s Society of Christian Service. Forty- six members were present. This be-j mg the quarterly business meeting of the class. Mrs. Wright, president, | presented a short program. The worship hour was under the 1 | direction of Mesdames J. J. Abrams j i and J. C. Simpson. Around a candle-' : lit Nativity scene, an inpressive pro- ! Jgram was rendered with special ( Christmas music. The decorations for the social hour ; were the traditional green and red and a lighted Christmas tree. Mrs. Lavinia Cooley .led the group in a number of unusual Christmas games, after which old Saint Nick came dish ing in with a gift for each one pres-! ent. The Social Service Committee’s j served chicken salad, fruit cake and ; coffee. To Present Piano Recital The pupils of Mrs. Carson Nabors will be presented in a piano recital at Joanna club, Friday night at 7:30 o’clock. Intermediates Have Party Members of the Intermediate M. YJF\ enjoyed a lovely party Tuesday night in the intermediate room. Mrs. Lavinia Cooley, their director, led the young folks in the singing of Christmas carols and games with the Christmas season kept in mind. Gifts were exchanged. The room was decorated with a Christmas tree and arrangements of holley. Refreshments of cookies, candies i and iced drinks were served. As u parting gesture, the M.YJ\ Friend ship circle w’as formed and prayed together their benediction.
