The tea table was-centered with a bowl of white gladioili and carna tions and at either, end were silver services from which Mrs. S. W. Sum- erel and Mrs. T. L. W. Bailey poured tea. Silver compotes of green and white mints completed the table ar rangement. Decorated cake squares were serv ed with tea and the Sunbeams passed mints. Other members of the Missionary Union assisted in entertaining and serving and about one hundred guests, members of the church or ganizations ,called during the ap pointed hours. ■■■■♦■■ ■ Mrs. Stevenson Is Bridge Club Hostess Tuesday members Of her bridge club met at the home of Mrs. John W. Stevenson for a number of after noon games. When the guests for two tables as sembled the hostess served hot to mato juice and cheese wafers. Mrs. Newton Jones and Mrs. S. K. McClain of Brevard, N. C., and Lakeland, Fla., who is the house guest of Miss Elia Adair, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Adair en tertained with a buffet supper on Sunday evening A turkey dinner was served from a prettily appointed table in the recreation room. Greenery with red oerries and taH limited tapers ad oraed the teble and elsewhere in the home decorations were in keeping with the hohdey season About fourteen guests enjoyed the delightfully informal occasion Newcomers Club Is Organized The newcomers club, composed ef wives of the new faculty members at Presbyterian college held a meeting on Wednesday evening of the past week at the home of Mrs. Gene Lor- endo with Mrs. S. K. Laffoday as co-hostess. The receiving rooms of the home were attractive with many Christmas appointments in artistic array. As a feature of the evenings entertainment Mrs. Lor endo, who formerly taugh art, instructed the group in making Christmas wreaths. During the evening the group en joyed popping corn, candied apples and toasted marshmallows with hot spiced apple juice. Members of the club in addition to Mis. Croker. • Baptist Group Has Week-of-Prayer, Regular Monthly Meet The past week the Woman’s Mis sionary Society of the First Bap tist church held three meetings, Mon day, Wednesday and Friday after noon in observance of the week-of- prayer for foreign missions. Mrs. T C. Johnson, Jr., was in charge of the programs. Monday afternoon the December meeting of the organization yas held at the church with the Baldwin cir cle, Mrs. Hugh Ray, presiding, pre senting the program. Mrs. C. W. Bridges gave the devotional and others contributing articles on the topic ‘‘Wings For Speeding The Light” were: Mrs. S. A. Timmons, Mrs. J. C. Thomas, Mrs. Fred Brandt and Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. Timmons, president, presided over a business session. Mrs. Black Entertains Pupils With Party Thursday evening Mrs. Bob Black entertained pupils of her music stud io with a lovely Christmas party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs on Calvert avenue. Featuring the program wpre a number of musical selections in the Christmas theme, given by the young guests. Later all joined in playing musical bingo. Mrs. Black presented figurines of great composers as awards for the fall’s work as follows: Note contest—Lou Jones Cornwell and Clair Smith. Memory work—Gerald Woodruff. Jenny Addison and Rachael Ann Wil son. Fastest scales—Nancy Cook, Rose Moore Nettles. Throughout the home the holiday atmosphere prevailed in the decora tions. Especially pretty was the living room mantel banked in pine with tall burning tapers and Christmas balls placed at intervals. Refreshment* were served in the dining room with the table festively appointed with a floor length red cover centered with a vari-colored wax tree and miniature choir boys on a reflector. Suspended from the chamdeHer was a colorful Christmas ball tree. Mrs. W. M. Walker assisted the hostess in entertaining and serving. Linen Shower For Popular Bride-Elect Miss Blanche Ellen Darr, Decem ber bride-elect was honored with a linen shower on Saturday afternoon by Miss Roslyn Cason. Green and white prevailed in the decorations of the rooms where the guests were received. White and green magnolia banked the mantel and book case with a handsome bowl of gladioli and carnations adorning the dining table. These arrangements were complimented by green and white tapers. The guests made up a bride’s book with each contributing advice and later several contests and games fol lowing the wedding theme were en joyed, the prizes being presented in turn to the honoree, by Miss Cornelia Harris and Mrs. Romayne Hamilton. The bride-elect was told that Santa had left a package for her and was presented a shower of gifts in a container decorated in the chosen party motif. The hostess presented Miss Darr with a corsage and a linen cloth. Fruit cake, coffee, mints and nuts were passed and each guest was giv en an appropriate party favor. Out-of-town guests here for the party were Miss Sara Margaret Smith of Conway, a student at Colurpbia college; Miss Lucy Ann Thomas of Chester, Miss Margaret Ann Barnett of Abbeville, Miss Pat Fowler, a student at Limestone college, Gaff ney. Miss Little Hostess Baptist Business Women The December meeting of the Bus iness Woman’s circle of the First Baptist church was held on Monday evening at the home of Miss Jamie Little. Miss Agnes Davis read the story “The SmaU One" by Charles Tiswell and the group s^ng a number of Christmas carols, Miss Eloise Miller closed the program with prayer. Later during a social hour the hos tess served pie, coffee, dates, mints and nuts. MANLEY Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thomas Manley announce the birth of a son, Thomas Leland, on December 8th at Blalock clinic. CAULEY Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Cauley, announce the birth of a daughter, Frances Edna, on December 8th at Hays hospital. Mrs. Cauley is the former Miss Willie Pruitt. ROGERS Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rogers of Jo anna announce the birth of a daughter on December 12th at Hays hospital. Schools Close Friday For Holidays The city schools will close Friday for the Christmas holidays it is announced by Supt. W. R. Ander son. P. C. SONGSTERS RETURN Presbyterian college’s 30-voiced robed choir returned Monday from a ten-day tour of Georgia during which sacred concerts were pres ented in a number of churches.
