Who is eligible to be drafted? A. Single men In non-essential occupations 19 through 25 years of age. Q. Will veterans of World War II be drafted? A. Generally, no. If a man serv ed honorably a year or more between September 20, 1940 and June 24, 1948, or if he served 90 days or more anywhere with the armed for ces between December 7, 1941 and September 2, 1945 he is not liable to military service. Q. How long will men have to *erve? A. For 21 months. Q. How many will be drafted? A. Nobody knows yet. Q. Can draft-eligible men volun teer? A. Yes. Q. How are deferments worked out? A. Local draft boards defer men on the basis of their previous mil itary service, their dependents, and their occupations. These deferments are based on answers to questionn aires sent out to all registrants. Q. Is there an appeal from the local board decision on classification? A. Yes, if any man feels the board has not acted properly in placing him in any classification, he can ap peal Within 10 days to an appeal board. There is at least one appeal board in each state, quite often two or more. The local boards will give the proper forms and addresses for appeals. on down to the youngest 19-year old. i Q. Where do 18-year olds fit into, the picture. M A. They must register when they become id. However, they are not I liable for military service for at least one year. Q. What are the provisions for, getting a draftee his old job back? A. Wi'hin reasonable limits all em ployers are required to give draftees | their old jobs back without loss of I senioaty after they are honorably: discharged. Q. Are college students eligible for drafting? A. Any student doing satisfactory work in a college university or the) equivalent may finish his school year' before being drafted. Q. Are ministers or ministerial students liable for military service? i A. No. Q. How about high school students? | A. High school students may con- 1 tinue in ochooi until they graduate 1 or until they reach the age of 20,' whichever comes first. t Q. In what order will men be se lected for military service? A. In the order of their birth dates. That is, the oldest 25-year old man in each local board’s list of avail able men—1-A— will be drafted first, the next oldest second and so Lydia Woman's Club Gives Flower Show Thursday afternoon and evening the Lydia Woman’s Club gave a flow- e(r show 1 ' at the woman’s building when a number of beautiful flower arrangements, potted plants and specimen flowers were displayed most attractively. Flowers wnich were in competition for prizes were grown and arranged by club mem bers. A number of guest arrange ments and several table settings were also entered. Judges were Mrs. A. B. Godfrey, Mrs. John T. Young and Mrs. W. W. Harris. Prize winners were: Adult arrangement — 1st place, Mrs. Walter Danhoff; 2nd place, Mrs. David Word; 3rd place, Mrs. A. C. Young. Children arrangements—1st place, Miss Ruth Trammell; 2nd place, Miss Donnaree Cauble; 3rd place, Miss Francine Smith. Outstanding flowers—1st place. Mrs. W. R. Cauble; 2nd place, Mr^ I James L. Bell; 3rd place, Mrs. Wal ter Danhoff and Mrs. C. M. Bailey. Pdt plants—1st place, Mrs. Roy | Snider; 2nd place, Mrs. A. C. Young; 3rd place, Mrs. Ralph Harbin. Single blooms—1st place, Mrs. A. C. Young (Sutter’s Gold Rose); 2nd place, Mrs. David Word (gardenia); 3rd place, Mrs. David Word (bronze 1 zennia). Guest arrangements—Mrs. H. M. Wise, Mrs. Brunspn Asbil, Mrs. Rus sell Gray, Mrs. Roy Adams, Mrs. Ella Nance, and Miss Marie Weir. Tables—Miss Myra Adair, dinner; Mrs. M. T. Ficklin, luncheon; Mrs. Karl Johnson and Miss Mary John son, child’s birthday.
