Stephens of Lineville, Ala. Bridge Chib Is Entertained Thursday afternoon Mrs. I. M., Adair entertained her bridge club and several additional guests. . Three tables were laid for the ,ames in a setting of spring flowers featuring roses and pansies. Score irizes were awarded Mrs. Carroll Vhite Copeland and Mrs. Robert P. Hamer. I Later a salad course vyas served .with assorted dainties and tea. I % Tuesday Club Meets : With Mrs. Simpson Members of the Tuesday bridge club gathered this week at the home of Mrs. Goyne L. Simpson for a number of afternoon games. Roses in a variety of shades made a pretty setting for the two tables. Prizes for high and second score were presented Mrs. William Brooks Owens and Mrs. Irby S. Hipp. Hostesses Entertain For Mrs. Young • To honor Mrs. Reese H. Young, a recent bride, Mrs. W. C. Baldwin, Mrs. C. E. King and Mrs. M. E. Milam gave a bridge party Friday afternoon. The Baldwin nome, where six ta bles were placed in the living room, Dessert Bridge Given For Club Mrs. Henderson Pitts gave a des sert bridge Thursday afternoon for members of her card club. Playing for absent members were two out of town visitors, Mrs. Wylie Sholar of Greensboro, N. C. and Mrs. W. C. Kaiser of Cleveland, Ohio. Two tables were daintily appoint ed far refreshments and a sweet course served before cards. Awards went to Mrs. Sholar, and Mrs. Wil- mot Shealy with Mrs. B. C. Preslar winning floating prize. Roses and sweet paas were attrac tively combined for decoration in the card rooms. raitgements of snapdragons, larkspur 1 and roses and in the dining room a S ink color scheme was used. In May Meeting j The May meeting of the Woman’s Missionary Society was held Mon- 'day afternoon at the First Baptist , church with the Runyan circle in charge of the following program: Hymn Devotional—Mrs. Joe W. Leake. Prayer—Mrs. L. E. Cason. Playlet, “Invisible Bridge”—Run yan circle members. Mrs. R. M. League presided over the program and later Mrs. Leake conducted the business session fol lowed by a dismissal prayer by Mrs. J. H. Darr. ed Garden Club Will Meet Monday A general meeting of the units of the Clinton Garden club will be held Monday afternoon, May 22 in the high school auditorium at 3:30. At this time new group leaders and membership lists will be announced. Officers state each member has been asked to bring samples of roses labeled with both her name and the name of the rose. These arrange ments will not be judged but will ;be used to decorate the auditorium 'and social rooms. Kaiser of Cleveland, Ohio, a former CHnton resident, was honored with a bridge party Satur day afternoon. Hostesses were Mrs. B. B. Ballard and Mrs. H. M. Luk-, stat with players for two tables as sembling at the BallardTibme. | Roses, snapdragons and sweet peas were artistically arranged as a back-! ground for the progressions. Mrs. Harry McSween won high score and Mrs. Kaiser was presented a guest prize. Wednesday Club Has Bridge Meet Mrs. Pringle Copeland, Jr., was hostess at bridge last week guests being members of the Wednesday j club. A variety of garden flowers in pastel tints added attractiveness to the card rooms where three tables were in play. When scores were counted Mrs. Tommy Hollis was found to be winner of the afternoon progressions. When cards were laid aside a salad course was served. May Meeting A. R. P. Society The May meeting of the Woman’s Missionary Society of the Associated Reformed Presbyterian church was held on Monday the 8th. The program on junior and inter- unediate work was led by Mrs. Hu bert Todd, secretary for that cause. Several members contributed arti cles from the Journal of missions. Reports were heard from delegates to the Presbyterial held recently in Greenwood. , l Mrs. Dickert Heads Lutheran Society The regular monthly meetihg of the Woman’s Missionary Society of St. Johns Lutheran church wa^held on May 8 at the home of Mrs. W T. Kanning. Mrs. James C. Dickert assisted by several members rendered the program on "The New Day”. Re ports of the Piedmont conference held the past week in Spartanburg were given by Mrs. A. C. Workman, Jr., and Mrs. O. C. Woodruff. The following officers were chos en to serve for the coming church year: ^ President—Mrs. James C. Dickert. Vice President—Mrs. Rhett Adair. Secretary—Mrs. Billy Johnson. - Treasurer—Mrs. O. C. Wodruff. During the sodial hour the hostess served a refreshment course with iced drinks. Wjllioms-Lesslie Engagement Mr. and Mrs. C. Edgar Williams of Ro^k Hill, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Margaret Whitesides to Reese Wylie Lesslie of Columbia and Lesslie. The bridegroom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W’. S. Lesslie of Lesslie. He is employed by the Col lector of Internal Revenue office in Columbia. . Miss Williams is a ’ graduate of ,Winthrop college and is a member I of the Thornwell orphanage school faculty. The wedding will take place in late summer. • Mrs. Black Presents fupils In Recital Mrs. Robert F. Black presented her piano pupils in recital Monday evening at the First Presbyterian church. The music and social rooms were adorned with roses, gladioli, lillies, larkspur, snapdragons and fox-glove. On either side of the stage were floor baskets of Dorothy Perkins roses. * During the evening guests were invited into the social rooms for re freshments of punch and wafers. Assisting the hostess were Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, Mrs. William Bailey Ow ens, Mrs. Pringle Copeland, Sr., Miss Nancy Owens, Miss Ella Little Mc Crary, and Mrs. William Brooks Owens.
