Columbia, March 29.—Roads under the. mairitenance of the South Caro lina highway department at the end of February totalled 20,915 miles as compared with 20,881 miles at the end of January, according to a re port made this month by the depart ment. In Laurens county, the total mile age in the state highway system at the end of February , was 530 miles, of which 244 miles were in the pri mary system which connects princi pal towns, and 286 miles were in the state secondary system. The primary system rn Laurens county consists of 74 miles of high type pavement, 163 miles of bitumi nous surfacing, 0.8 mile of improved earth roads and 6.8 miles of unim proved earth roads. The secondary system in the county is made up of 134 miles of bituminous surfacing and 152 miles of unimproved earth roads. The state system is made up of 8,659 miles in the primary system and 12,256 miles in the secondary system.
