Sea son Opens At Clinton Mills Park. The fast Central Carolina Textile baseball league, with four teams par ticipating, will begin its 108-game schedule on April 18, it is announced by Dr. R. H. Park of Greenwood, the president. CKnton ana Joanna, Ware Shoals and Watts will make up the circuit. Watts, Riverdale and Ware Shoals were in the loop last year. Riverdale dropped out and Joanna re-joined the league after a year’s absence and berth in the King Cotton league. • The season opening here April 18 —Clinton vs. Joanna—will close Sat urday, August 19, to be followed by t playoffs. A fast brand of baseball is expected from all four of the clubs, with games on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. In addition to the production-mar keting contest, the k 1950 program again include the annual demonstra tion contest, in which individuals, or teams compete in demonstrating new methods of planting, cultivating, pre paring, or marketing vegetables. Trips to the annual NJVGA conven tion for winners of statb contests, and cash awards to top performers in the national finals are offered tsy the W. Clay ton, 4-H club leader and state chair man for the NJVGA. The contest offers teen-age tillers of the soil more than 200 agricultural schplar- ships and awards for dodng a su perior job of growing and market ing vegetables. In announcing the association’s tenth annual contest, Mr. Clayton pointed out that all South Carolina boys and girls from 12 through 21 years of age are eligible to compete for the $6,000 in awards A & P Food Stores provides for this project each year. South Carolina youths won one sectional championship and four -state awards in the 1949 contest. Mr. Clayton explained that the contest is essentially an educational program designed to further the use of more modern, efficient, and prof itable methods of growing and sell ing vegetables.
