Columbia, May 17. — Laurens and all other counties of the state will be served by one of the four cardiac clinics authorized at a recent meet ing of the board of directors of the South Carolina Heart association. While the exact locations have not been announced, the clinics will be erected “as rapidly as possible” at focal points Jn the state, it was an nounced this week by H. M. McEl- veen, executive secretary of the state association. The association hopes to eventual ly operate a cardiac clinic in every county, and will establish addi tional ones as soon as possible. The association will also sponsor research on heart disease and arrange for tVeatment, “and if the money we re ceive will permit we will provide nursing services,” Secretary McEl- veen added. The association raised approxi mately $36,000 in the first annual drive for funds to be held in South Carolina. Only 19 counties in the state were organized for the drive, including Laurens, where the county chairman is Col. R. E. Wysor of Clin ton. Brownies Have Picnic Alonday’afternoon at 3:30 twenty- four Brownies in the 7 and 8-year age group, hiked to the Brownies’ secret retreat where the regular meeting was held. Stunts were given by representatives of each of the three groups. The Willard twins, Linda Lou and Peggy Sue, were voted best by the Brownies.
