Per haps all Americans are fast becom ing a bunch of leeches unwilling to exert the individual energy neces sary to keep this country great. I cannot believe this. I am old-fash ioned enough to believe in America and in. creative principles which made her great. Irn.nk Mr. Truman needs to develop a s.miiar faith in our country. He needs to add a fifth freedom to the now famous four- namely,—freedom of enterprise. The fruits of freedom will ripen only if oscial climate conducts to good growth. Human organism may have the experience, knowledge, and necessary inheritance to develop in to a full-blown free man. But, how humans Use assets and their savings depends on factors w r hich alone de velop industry, perserverance, com petitiveness, and self-reliance. In short, the human organism must be adequately conditioned and mo tivated to git up and git. This is a lesson in psychology of human re lations which Mr. Truman overlooks. If Mr. Truman is sincere in his desire to fulfill his campaign prom ises, he will try to remedy his gross misunderstanding of business func tions. He will realize the importance of the competitive spirit and the profit motive in a healthy and free national economy. Government is justified in pre venting monopolies and assuring business is carried on honestly; but otherwise politics and business do not mix to make prosperity. CALL 74 FOR OFFICE SUPPLIES SIX-INCH SERMON By Rev. Robert H. Harper JESUS’ PEREAN MINISTRY Lesson for April 10: Mark 10:- 13-16, 35-40. Memory Selection: Mark 10:35. The scenes of today’s lesson were in Perea, a region northeast of Je rusalem, beyond the Jordan river. Two familiar incidents of the Lord’s ministry comprise the lesson. The first is that of the blessing of the children. It was an hour when Jesus used children to teach the dis ciples—of the place of children in the kingdom, and of the childlike qualities and the humility we must have to gain entrance into the king dom of God. Parents who are head ing toward the divorce courts should read again about Jesus blessing the children. And society and church should learn more and fiiore of the value of the children 6f the present. The second incident of the lesson shows the designing spirit that often besets men who would follow Jesus. James and John came to Jesus (prompted, as another Gospel writer tells us, by their mother) seeking chief places in the Lord’s “glory’’-^- to sit one on His right hand and another on His left. When Jesus asked if they were willing to pay the price, in sacrifice and suffering, they replied that they were ready. Jesus told them they would indeed share in His sufferings, but to sit on His right hand and on His left were not His to give. A sure way to lose all high privi- eges in the kingdom of God is to seek them. The only way to gain a high place in the Lord’s service is to forget it in serving. You must lose yotnMife if you would save it. The great are those who forget themselves into immortality. Give your all to Jesus, as knowring you will be safe and happy in His love.
