Next to Bailey’s Bank Phone 423 Locking The Bam Door Too Late Congress is in session. Our lead ers (?) are contemplating putting controls on wages and merchandise.! Boys, you’re too late. The horse left; just after you opened the door and killed OPA ’way back yonder. Re- memtoer? The big boys, the Wall Streeters, the Industrialists and other com- merciar interests assured you that ifj you killed the OPA that competition; would take care of prices, etc. There is no such thing as competition any more. Congress might be able to peg prices and wages where they are now, but we doubt the ability of that body to peg anything anywhere any time. Trere are forces outside of Congress that have much more power than the president and Con gress combined. Ever heard at the CIO, APL, and the boll weevil? You know—food is now almost out of reach of the average wage earner. Ck>thtiig and cotton goods are high enough to make nudists of most of us. not by choice, mind you. When a guy can take 33c wortlj of cotton and convert it int oa >9.98 dress without much expense, there’s something dead up the creek. There’s only one thing that will reduce prices. That remedy is worse than our affliction. A nice 12-months depression will turn the trick. No body wants a depression and we must avoid such a thing. ' .. . . . ■ . — SIX-INCH SERMON By REV. ROBERT H. HAIDER A MESSAGE OF LOVE (Christmas Lesson) f Lesson for December 7: John 3:16;| Ephesians 3:14-21. i Memory» Selection: II Corinthians 9:15. Some years ago the people of one of our cities arranged a great cele bration, in honor of a local artist, who had just achieved fame. All the chief men of the city were present. As the celebration began, great was the consternation to find that the artist was not present. In all the preparation for the grand affair, no one had invited the man to be hon ored. This may remind us of many things connected with the Christmas season. In many circles Jesus Him self is not invited to be present. Let us make this Christmas the anniversary of Jesus and center our thoughts ip Him. The day of His birth should be a day of thanksgiv ing transcending our national Day of Thanksgiving. For on that day who should lift thankful hearts unto God for the great Gift that has made all thanksgiving possible. “For God so loved the world . . . ’ And we should rejoice that we may have Christ dwelling in our herats through faith, and be able to comprehend with all the saints all the dimensions of love. As for the Church, the people should rejoice tha tthe power that works in them can be given unto others and Christ can have glory 1 through all generations. So may Christmas be the time when Jesus is born anew in our hearts—to the end that He may so perfectly reveal! Himself 'to us that He can reveal Himself through us unto others.
