He went to Goldville as an officer on April 1, 1939. He recently graduated from the FBI Police Training school held in Laurens, and pre viously had completed several courses ol instruction in law enforcement work. Mr. Pitts Is a son of the late P. County Birth Rate Shows Small Decline Columbia, June .24—(Special to The Chronicle).—According to sta tistics compiled this week by the di vision of vital statistics of the South Carolina State Board of Health, the birth rate in Laurens county is on the decrease. These figures also indicate that the new female resi dents outnumber the male. During the year of 1946, for which; the compilations have just been com pleted, a total of 693 babies were bom in Laurens county, as compared with the 707 born the year before. Of the 1946 babies 198 were white male and 204 were white female. The white babies born in the county during 1945 numbered 370. Of the Negro infants Dorn in Lau rens county last year, 145 were malfc and 146 were female, according to the health department statistics. A total of 337 Negro babies were born in the county during the year before. The number of births in South Carolina jumped to 53,630 in 1946, over the 49,943 recorded in 1945. The births list year were broken down as follows: 15,733 white male, and 14, 920 white female.
