Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Anderson Mrs. C .W. Ahderson was hostess to her bridge club on Thursday af ternoon assembling players for two tables. ' ' • ' Arrangements of snapdragons, roses and sweet william added at tractiveness to the home.- Mrs. B. B. Ballard won high score award. At the conclusion of the games a dessert course was served with punch. Mrs. Harry McSween Hostess To Bridge Club Mrs. Harry McSween entertained members of the Wednesday bridge club the past week with a dessert bridge. Larkspur, sweet william and roses made a pretty background for the two tables. A sweet course was served, after which a number of. progressions were enjoyed. High score prize was presented Mrs. John William King. Joint Hostesses Entertain Club Mrs. R. L. Plaxico and Mrs. Roy Gasque entertained the “Odds and Ends” book club on Thursday eve ning. Summer flowers in attractive com binations decorated the receiving rooms of the Plaxico home where members assembled for the meeting. Guests were invited into the dining room where salad and sweet courses were served. A low bowl of mixed flowers centered the dining table. This was the last meeting of the club until September. Luncheon Compliments > June Bride-Elect Mrs. John William King enter tained with a buffet luncheon on Fri day honoring Miss Annette Moor head, popular bride-elect. 1 Decorations were in white and pink with quantities of roses pre dominating in floral arrangements. The guest of honor was presented a corsage of pink and white carna tions. The •. luncheon mepu carried out the wedding motif in the chosen color note. Guests found their places at small tables centered by a bud- vase of sweet william. Out-of-town visitors here for the party were Mrs. Harry Phillips of Spartan-burg, Mrs. Rhpert Smith of Greenville, Miss Margaret Jeter of Ninety-£ix, Mrs. Douglas Jeter and Mrs. William Green of Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Adair Given Housewarming On Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Adair, who have recently moved into their home on the Lau- ens road, were surprised by a group of their friends with a de lightful housewarming. Mr. and Mrs. Adair were presented a number of attractive gifts and re freshments were served during the evening. Twenty-five guests enjoy ed the occasion. Baptist Society Holds Meeting , The YWA of the First Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the home of the leader, Mrs. O. H. Sheely, Jr. ' An interesting program on “The Japanese,” was presented by Miss Betty Sue Simpson, assisted by Miss es Mary Ruth Norman, Nettie Lou Murdock, June Owens and Mrs. Margaret Bull. Mrs. Sheely gave the Scripture reading and made the closing prayer. During a social hour, the hostess, assisted by her niece, Miss June Owens, served a sandwich plate with iced drinks. Mrs. Boland Hostess To Lutheran Society Mrs. Ratchford Boland was host ess to the Woman's Missionary so ciety of St. John’s Lutheran church at her home on Monday evening. Topic of the June program, led by Mrs. R. N. Blackwelder, was “Chris tian Social Relations.” Articles were contributed by Miss Doris Suber, Mrs. Boland and Mrs. W. O. Der rick. (Continued on page two) Thomwell Circle In Monthly Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Ella Riddell circle of Thornweli Memorial church was held Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. George A. Black. Mrs. A. S. Maxwell had charge of the program on “How Do I Affect Others.” Mrs. Black read an article from the Survey on “Seeking A Sound Strategy.” The meeting was closed with prayer. Baptist Class Enjoys Outing The* Helen Anderson Sunday school class ~ of the First Baptist church gave a picnic on Tuesday evening at the home of the teacher, Mrs. S. W. Sumerel. The lovely Sumerel garden made a pretty setting for the outing. About forty guests, including mem bers and their children, enjoyed the picnic supper. The class presented a going away gift to Mrs. Merle Duncan who will leave soon to join her husband, Sgt. Duncan, in Ger many. Lovely Tea Honors Bride and Bride-elect A lovely tea was given on Satur day afternoon by Mrs. H. M. Young and Mrs. Harry Williams honoring Mrs. H. M. Young, Jr., recent bride, and Miss Vivian Marion, bride-elect of the month. Also in the receiving line were Miss Annette Moorhead and Miss Robbie King, two of the season’s brides-elect. The honorees wore corsages of carnations, gifts of the hostesses, while Misses Moorhead and King were presented old-fashioned nose gays. Mrs. T. C. Johnson and Mrs. Rem- bert Truluck greeted the guests. Entertaining in the living room were Mrs. Frank Miller, Mrs. Wil liam Blackwell, Mrs. T. W. Hender son and Miss Rebecca Speake. -. Throughout the receiving rooms I Madonna lillies, snapdragons, lark spur and roses were arranged. UDC MEET CANCELLED There will be no meeting of the UDC for the month of June. The trip to Oakley Park has been post poned until further notice, officers state.
