The wedding will take place in June. Thornwell Circle Holds May Meeting The Ella Riddell circle of Thorn- well Memorial church met on Tues day morning at the Edith home on the orphanage campus. The co-chairman, Mrs. Lois Jor dan, presided over a business session. Mrs. Janie Stewart conducted the program on “Am I. Happy,” and gave the Bible study. She was assisted by Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Bessie Godfrey, and Mrs. Hattie Blankenship, who gave an article, “Twenty-five Years of Auxiliary‘Birthday Gifts.” ^ Little Corrine Boyd Celebrates Birthday Corrine Boyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Boyd, invited the neigh borhood children for a party on Tuesday afternoon in celebration of her third birthday. Games were played on the lawn and later a picnic table was spread with birthday cloth and napkins for refresh rfients. “Happy Borthday” was sung, after which the cake was cut and served with ice cream. Mint cups were at each place and guests were given windhnills as favors. The little honoree was presented a number of. attractive packages. No. 7 Mrs. Pringle Copeland Sullivan-Collawn Miss Margaret Katherine Sullivan of Greenville, and Sergeant James Floyd Oollawn of Richmond, Va., and Roswell, New Mexico, were mar ried at the parsonage of the First Baptist church of Roswell Thursday, May 1, at 2 o’clock. The bride, a brunette, wore a suit of blue gabardine with black access ories and a corsage of pink roses. Mrs. Collawp is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Sullivan of this city. She is a graduate of Clinton high school and Draughon’s Business college of Greenville. At the time of her marriage she held a position in the payroll de partment of Dunean Mills, Green ville. Sergeant Collawn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Owens of Richmond. He has been in the army air corps for the past six years with several years in foreign-f service. Missionary Society Has Meeting The May meeting of the Woman’s Missionary society was held Monday afternoon at 7:30 at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church. Mrs. R. L. Plaxico had arranged the afternoon’s program on the work of the junior and intermediate de partments of< the church. Members of these groups were ^present and gave their regular program for the society. Mrs. E. B. Slpan and Mrs. Plaxico are leaders for the junior organization. Mrs. Derrick Heals Lutheran Group The May meeting of the Woman’s missionary society of St.-John’s Lu theran church was held at the home of Mrs. W. O. Derrick on Monday evening. Leader: Mrs. Kenneth Matheson. Topic: “Thy Message For Un conquered Frontiers.” Scripture: Luke 10:25-37. Several members took part on the program. The following officers were elect ed for the new year: • President, Mrs. W. O. Derrick. Vice-President: Mrs. R. Wi Boland. Secretary, Miss Doris Suber. Treasurer, Mrs. R. N. Blackwelder. Later refreshments were served by the hostess. Mrs. Dunlap Hostess To Study Club • Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Thorn- well Dunlap entertained the Study club at the home of Mrs. J. B. Hart on Maple street. Purple iris, pink snapdragons and Lady Bankshin roses were placed at vantage points in the living room. Mrs. Hart was program leader for the afternoon and talked on Admiral Byrd’s fourth trip to Little America. Later a salad course, tea and cook, ies were served. Miss Emma McCrary Weds W. A. Alexander Miss Emma McCrary became the bride of William Abit Alexander in a quiet ceremony taking place Sat urday, May 3, in Camden. The ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Montgomery at the First Baptist church parsonage. Attending the rites were Miss Sara McCrary, sister of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Elliott of Camden. The bride was becomingly attirecj in a spring suit of tomato red with assisted Mrs. Strickland. Sunbeams Observe Focus Week The Sunbeam Bands of the Wom an’s missionary unions of the Bap tist churches throughout the South are observing Focus Week during May. Shining Sunbeams serve ev erywhere, at home in the busy, brightening ways, in school, at church, at play. H. Simpson, on Cleveland street. A color motif of yellow and white was artistically carried out in the decorations with tulips, white spirea and Soctch heather being arranged on the living room mantel and spinet piano. Centering the exquisitely ap pointed dining room table, overlaid with a lace cloth, was a Ipw bowl of yellow pansies flanked with tall tapers in crystal candelabra. Four tables were prettily ap pointed for cards. Marking the place of the honoree was a corsage of yel low carnations. ’After several progressions refresh ments carrying out the chosen yellow and white color note were served. Assisting the hostess in serving and entertaining were: Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Roy Pitts. Miss Moorhead was winner of high score prize. She was also presented • gift of China in her chosen pat tern.
