It is the next essential to your Bible. Indeed, a person with grammar school or even fifth grade training can, in a few years, by persistent use of a good ! dictionary, while making a living and Mention was made last week by Tne Chronicle of the state constabu- ! building up a business, while read Mry appropmuon as passed by the; ing some literature, history, philoso- >wer house and sent to the senate.; phy, psychology, sociology and eeo- 1: was pointed out that $57,000 was ( nomics,, some good periodicals, and cut by the house from the sought, his Bible, make of himself a better $207,000 appropriation as recom mended by the ways and means committee Since then a news report states that the senate reinstated the cut item to bring the appropriation back to its original figure. In speaking of the constabulary: •>ystem, The Chronicle raised a ques- l on as to whether it is so essential as governors proclaim from year to year. We stated that the constobu- liry idea came into existence back when Benjamin Tillman was gover nor and was created in an effort to enforce the dispensary law which was noted for its endless scandals, demoralization and politioal corrup tion. And the point was made that with good roads everywhere, closely connected cities, towns and rural areas, and with sheriffs and deputies in every courtly, is it still necessary to maintain an expensive state sys tem to do the bidding of the gover nor, whether it^be law enforcement assignments or political activity dur ing election years. The Chronicle sees no real need for such a large force and believes that it often slows down county officers in doing their duty. It is mighty easy to “pass the buck,” to say when a difficult or educated person than most college and university graduates. This by simply using his leisure time of five or six hours a day. 15 Q. What is the Work of the Holy Spirit in our lives? B. W. 15 A. Before Regeneration we can do nothing intrinsically and wholly good and acceptable to God. The Holy Spirit warns and convicts us of sin and encourages us to seek sal vation—a way out. He regenerates us, John 3:5&8b. From then, He helps us do everything that is acceptable to God; enables us to Repent truly; works saving faith in us; helps us in Sanctification, putting off the old and putting on the new; takes the things ot Christ and shows thme to us; brings to our remembrance; wit nesses with our spirits that we are children of God, Rom. 8:16 (“itself” should be “himself”). He woos us to Christ, is the Spirit of adoption, Rom. 8:15. He indites oura petitions, helps us to pray acceptably. Read Rom. 8:1-27 and see, He is named 19 times in those verses. Mentioned 4 times in Christ’s Farewell Discourse, John 14,16,16. The name “Paraclete" used by Jesus is translated “Com forter” in our versions, “Helper,” Stop Scratching!
