Human spirits don’t become angels. Of course muph more could be said about angels. They instructed both Daniel ,and John. Refused worship. Angels may have appeared occasionally in mod ern times, according to seemingly! authentic accounts. Why not? “The angels of the Mons” were not ade- 1 quately explained away. Q. 14—1) What is the sin against the Holy Spirit? 2) Why is it the •Unpardonable Sin? A. 14—1) The sin against the Holy Ghost (Spirit), Thi Unpardonable. Sin—found in MafT 12:31 and par-! allels (parallels can always be found l in the reference column) is blas phemy or speaking contemptuously of the Holy Spirit, His Word or His Works.” Read the whole story at tentively. The Pharisees had flip pantly said that Jesus was casting out demons in collusion with Beel zebub (Philistine god of flies), or more contemptuously Beelzebul (ac- ! cording to some of the best manu scripts), "the Prince of the demons.” Christ used a number of arguments in refutation and this was the fifth, a warning perhaps rather than a charge. He was doing His work by the power o f the Holy Spirit” the Finger of God”—figurative, of course. They were .reading on dangerous ( j ground. He o.so g«-ve thtem another warning argument about idle words, that has likewise puzzled people no little. Also the argument about the Exorcised demon, verses 43-45; His eighth. Speaking contemptuously of the Bible, as some of the rational-1 ists of our time and members of the! AAAA do, comes within the same purview. They had better take heed. 2) People constantly use the names God, Christ, Jesus in profanity, but seldom the Holy Ghost, being pro bably restrained by the Holy Spirit,! as Dr. Brooks of St. Louis suggested. The Holy Spirit is f a Person on whom we are dependent to help us in everything in our salvation, from Conviction through to Sanctification. He is our Counselor, Helper, Para clete. Sorqe have maintained that! “Holy Ghost” means “Holy Guest.” Not etymologically true, but there is a profound seed-thought there. See Paul in I Cor. 8:19. The Holy Ghost is not holier than the other Persons of the Godhead, nor is He more jeal ous of His own honor than of Theirs. But if we insult Him He will leave us and then we are in a helpless, hopeless condition and become case- hardened. Such probably never wor ry about being lost. One who is afraid that he has committed the sin against the Holy Spirit gives evi dence thereby that he has not com- j mitted this sin. Note that unpardon- 1 aide is not the equivalent of unpar doned.
