C. Dear Miss Welchel: There has been forwarded to this office from overseas, your letter inquiring concerning your brother, who was reported killed in action. The distress you have suffered since you received the sad announce ment of your brother’s death is most understandable and, realizing your desire to know the attending circum stances, I wish to advise you that an additional report has been received in the war department. This report discloses that on 26th of February, 1944, he was on patrol duty with his company at Anzio, Italy. While bringing up the rear of his patrol, he stopped to check a foxhole to see if it was occupied.
