Blease, Newberry attorney who was narrowly defeated for the U. S. sen ate in 1940 and had been mentioned frequently as a possible candidate this summer, announced Saturday he would not enter the race for the seat now hbld by South Carolina’s senior senator, Ellfson D. Smith.
