An urgent appeal is being made here by the U. S. civil service and the U. S. employment service for workers skilled " in any shipbuilding trade. Qualified workers in Laurens coun ty—not now in war work—will be hired “on the spot” February 14 through February 16 at the U. S. employment serVice office, 16 South Broad street, Clinton. WHAT DO YOU KNOW’ ABOUT EYESIGHT? A person who accepts aid for his eye sight must go through thd mental operation of admitting and accept ing a personaPdefect. The implica tion is that attention to eyesight is primarily, if not exclusively, for those with substandard vision. The result is that many deny themselves 'visual improvement beca-use of pride.” 0 And there is no “eyestrain” either! For the reasons given above, you cannot strain your eyes. So you want to know what happens when you have headaches, burning and scratchy eyelids and things blur whe/i you keep looking at them? You are suf fering from fatigue, not “strain.” The fatigue is located in your nervous system and not in your eyes, al though some of the symptoms (like the scratching) show up in the eyes. The real "trouble is in your central nervous system which is why indi gestion and irritability are associ ated with visual fatigue.
