Mrs. Leila Workman Young, 75, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. F. Scott, on East Carolina avenue, following an extended illness of several months. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o’clock from the Scott residence, with Dr. J. K. Rob erts in charge, assisted by Dr. D. J. Woods, Rev. W. N. Long, and Rev. Willis of Columbia. Interment will follow in Rocky Springs cemetery. Nephews wlil serve as pallbearers, Mrs. Young had lived her entire life in this community, where she was highly esteemed and loved by all who were privileged to know her. She was a member of the Rocky Springs Presbyterian church, a wo man of strong Christian faith and character, and the announcement of her death will be a source of regret to many. | Mrs. Young was twice married. Her j first husband was James M. Work man. Surviving from this marriage | are two children, J. Roy Workman of ‘ this city, and Mrs. W. P. Quattle- I baum of Columbia. Her second mar riage was to J. H. M. Young. Three [children, Mrs. Scott ■ and Edgar Young of this city, and Lewis Young of the army, survive from this mar riage. Also surviving are four step children, Mrs. George W. The letters were in their own handwriting, and sent through the International Red Cross. OLIN H. SHEALY, JR., stationed at Fort Meade, Md., with a unit of motion picture operators, writes home of meeting mahy interesting people in the entertainment world, among them the actor-comedian, Sterling Holloway, who is stationed there. A group of the boys were invited to his tent and Mr. Sheely states the eve ning was better than a side show; also that Mr. Holloway was as funny off-screen in his unrehearsed, chatty good-humor manner as he is in film roles. MR. and MRS. E. K. BURDETTE of Charleston, were week-end guests of relatives here. They left Tuesday for Asheville, N. C., where Mr. Bur dette is attending the photo-engravers association meeting as one of the eight directors of the Southeastern association’. Following the convention, they will visit their son, Captain E. K. Burdette, Jr., and Mrs. Burdette in Washington, D. C. Clinton residents are beginning to feel like characters in Louis Brom- fleld’s “The Rains Came.” They have brought with them a noticeable droopiness about the young ladies’ hair (due partly, we suspect, to lack of bobby pins)—that is, for the re maining one-third who do not have their hair the new “upsweep” style. Happy days will be here when the sun shines again, and the s$lt will shake, and we can complain about the heat.
