Woman’s Club Meets On Monday evening the Woman’s club met at the community hall with the president Mrs. J. V. Lowe, in charge. All sang “God Bless Ameri ca,” and Mrs. R. L. Yarborough read the Scripture. Mrs. Ralph Riddle led in prayer, after which “The Star Spangled Banner” was sung. Mrs. Grady Arnold read “How Do You Tackle Your Work?” The sick committee appointed were: Mrs. Ursula Blakely, Mrs. Ora Wood, Mrs. Joe Campbell, and Mrs. Brevard Patterson. Mrs. John Cranford who is leav ing our community, to make her home. in Chester, was presented a basket of lovely gifts. -■ ESTEEMED COLORED CITIZEN PASSES Arthur English, colored, lifelong resident of this community, died at his home here August 15 with; the funeral services following on thei 18th. The service, which was attend ed by a large gathering of friends, was held at Hebron Baptist church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. A. A. Sims, assisted by Rev. E. W. Riley of Lancaster. Arthur suffered a stroke about three years ago and since then had been confined to his home. For 30 years Arthur was employed at the home of W. J. Bailey, where he was highly regarded by Mr. Ballet and the late Mrs. Bailey. He was a first-rate citizen, a man of high ideals, rigid honesty and Christian character, who had many friends both among the colored and white citizens who knew him, ail of whom will regret' td learn of his passing. Mr. Bailey, his employer and friend, spoke of Arthur in the highest terms and with warm appreciation of his valuable services. Arthur is survived by his widow and one son in the U.*S. army. their invasion base at Buna.
