Citizens of Clinton are urged to Ibe on their guard against transient venders and peddkrs who daim to offer valuabk merchandise at "^giye-away^ prices. Often these salesmen represent their goods as smug gled or stolen. Most of the articles offered are diflS- •X cult for the untrained eye to evaluate, such as furs, linens, rugs, jewelry, appliances and many others. It has been found that many such transactions are absolute swindles and the buyer has' no recourse; first, because the salesman represents no responsibk firm, and second, because any one knowingly pur chasing stolen or smuggled goods makes himself a party to the transaction. Also the vender is ui^ally “hut of town*** by the time the fraud is discovo'ed.
