CALDWELL In Welfare Funds, 'j Board Reports The Laurens county board of pubKc welfare announced yesterday that re- j ductions in the amount of aid being distributed are being put into effect to meet the reduction made to the county by the state department. j In order to meet-the reductions, a member of the board stated, the board will be compelled to adopt the policy'| advocated by the state board due to the fact that standards of award are now inadequate for the minimum of recipients. The neces.sary reductions ■ will be made on the basis of nee<l de termined by a full review of cases now receiving assistance in the county. Ca.ses, particularly in old age as-; sistance, in which food and shelter, can be furnished by re.sponsible rela-< tives, will be temporarily suspended, this group, however, constituting a. preferred waiting list and may be put j back on the rolls as funds for thisj department permit. No new cases wrillj be accepted, the board states, in pref erence to a case which has been sus pended. New cases can only be ap proved when the suspended easels have' been absorbed. i For the fiscal year 1939-40, the old age assistance appropriation for the' county is $58,630. The amount for the' year 1938-39 was $6.5,070.61. Begin-' ning October Ist, the board will have! $40,562.31 to provide old age help forj the next nine months. ) Dependent children aid last year! amounted to $22,370.9.5.
