Commencement exercises of the Va
cation Bible school of Calvary Bap
tist church were held Sunday eve
ning at the regular preaching hour.
The school was held for two weeks
and had a total enrollment of 125,
with an average attendance of 101,
with 76 receiving certificates.
At the close of the school the chil
dren enjoyed an ice cream supper
given by their teachers, Mrs. R. D.
Hughes, Miws Nora Cannon, Miss Ma
rie Wier, Miss Myrtle Trammell and
Rev. R. D. Hughes.
Two Clinton Boys
Hurt In Wreck

this city, were hurt in a wreck Sun
day night when their automobile skid
ded and turned over on the Chester-
Charlotte highway. They were re-j
moved to a Chester hospital where
they are now patients, and their con
dition is expected to show sufficient
improvement to remove them to their!
homes here in the next few days. Miss
Lillian Braswell, of this city, and Miss
Ruth Harmon of Chester, who were'
accompanying the young men when
the accident occurred, escaped with
a few minor injuries. !

Washington, July 28.—Since launch
ing the present emergency spending
program on April 8, 1935, the New
Deal has pout^ 14,921,0^,256 into
federal ]>ayrolls, the equivalent of $63
for. every man, woman and child in
the nation, a treasury report revealed
here tonight.
The report, compiled at the direc
tion of President Roosevelt, shows
personnel payments took 59.9 per cent
of the total emergency fund of $8,-
286,313,827 between 1935 and last
June 30, end of the 1938 fiscal year.
