CENTURY CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. DUDLEY JONES The Century club met Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. F. D. Joner. Mrs. John Osman was wel comed as a new member of the club. Mrs. S. M. Huntley gave an interest ing book review of “Alma Mater,’’ by Candy. She also read extracts from “And Gladly Teach,” by Bliss Terry. The club adjourned to meet Nov. 17 with Mrs. H. A. Huge bonfires were LITTLE GIRL CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Mrs'. B. F. Wingard honored her little daughter, B&rrie Jean, with a lovely dinner party Friday evening in celebration of the little girl’s sixth birthday. The beautifully appointed dining table was centered with an artistic arrangement of carnations and deep yellow chrysanthemums in a black pumpkin container. Elsewhere in the room chrysanthemums were also used for decoration. A delicious dninei; was served. The guests Were:' Miss Lily Yar borough, Mrs. W. D. Copeland, Miss Ella Little McCrary, Miss Maude Pearson, Anne Owens, Barbara An derson and Louise Tribble. Miss Kitty Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack H. Davis, Sr., of Clin ton, is teaching typing in Winthrop Training school, Rock Hill, for this semester. Miss Davis is a senior at Winthrop college, where she has made an excellent record. She is majoring in commercial science and is one of the typists for . the Tatler, annual publication of.the senior clhss. will be “Loyalty,” and will consist of singing and addresses on the theme by Mary Allen, of Greenwood ;~Laura Fleming, of Laurens, and Rev. David Boozer, of Goldville. Each person at tending will take an individual lunch, and the 'Abbeville auxiliary will ar range the lunch and supplement with various drinks and salads. MRS. PINSON HOSTESS TO CIRCLE The Ella Riddell circle met bn Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. B. S. Pinson. Mrs. Harry DeMontmollin, chair man of the circle, presided over the business session. An unusually inter esting program on China was led by Mrs. J. M. Hudgens. After the program the ' hostess served a delicious chicken salad course. A prominent out-of-town speaker will appear on the program, and an . evening of entertainment arranged for the honor guests. Wysor, as program lead er for the afternoon, presented an un- unually interesting program on “The Old Northwest.” She told of the con-, quering of the region by George Rog ers Clark, a noted soldier of his time. Later in the afternoon the hostess served delicious Russian tea, sand wiches, cakes and candy. CLINTON GIRL IS HONORED AT BRENAU Miss Vivian Parks Adair, of this city, a senior at Brenau college, Gainesville, Ga., was recently made student assistant in the French de partment under Dr.< Isabel W. Allen. Miss Adair is a member of Theta Up silon, national social sorority, a^ served as president of her chapter her junior year. ?ince her matricula tion at Brenau in 1933, she has ^be come s popular member of the stu dent body, having been a member of Tuesday evening Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, Sr., and| Miss Clara Duckett enter tained in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Osman, who were recently mar ried, with a lovely buffet supper. On the exquisitely appointed table in the dining room were an arrange ment of chrysanthemums, a lovely wedding cake containing the Emblems of fate, and white lighted tapers in silver holders. Lilies of the valley and fem were tied with white ribbon and suspended from the chandelier in shower effect. A delicious supper was served in buffet style. Hugh Holman presided as toast master of the enjoyable occasion. Long, of Greenwood, chairman of the committee on reli gious education for the prmbytery The exercises, breiided over by Con stance Armfield, of Newberry, league president, will begin promptly at 10:80 a. m. and will conclude at 2:30 p. m. Miss Eupbemia Gordon, young people’s worker of the First Presby terian church, Greenville, is secretary of thejeague; J. B. Jacobs, of Pres byterian college, vice-president, and Anna Thomson, of Lander college, treasurer. The league is made up of 300 young people in the 41 churches of the five counties of Abbeville, ".McCormick, Newberry, Greenwood and Laurens, and holds two meetings annually^ the spring meeting in Greenwood and the fall meeting on invitation from~other young people’s societies elsewhere. The theme for the fall rally this year is “Leadership and Loyalty.” 'Die opening devotional will be conducted by Eliz* Austin, of Abbeville, after which an official welcome will be given by the hostess society and prop er response be made by the league president. The business meeting will follow, consisting of roll call by so cieties and report of the various chairmen of highways. Miss Gordon will report on the Montreat leader ship school, and various members will respond to the question: “How do you develop l«wdership among the young people of yeur church” The afternoon session, beginning at 1 o’clock will be a popular meeting to which all the adults of the community and presbytery are invited.
