I i NATIONAL COTTON WEEK MAY 14-19 J'-~ Every section has its dominating industry—and in the South the tex tile industry has j^radually developed until the world recoyrnizes our undisputed leadership . . . and the South itself proclaims this section as - - very impor tant. If the industry becomes stagnant and the demand for mtton ^oods does not equal the supply, the result is shoH-time operation for local mills, poor business for retail merchants and an ever-widening circle of curtailed trading activity. * * * Anything that increases the demand for. cotton products, on the other hand, immediately increases the local income, mak ing for better living; and increased prosperity for all of us. I The charife is made against us that *The people of the South are not sufficiently sold on the one crop on which they are dependent for pros perity to' buy this product back after it has been manufac|ured.'' This beinj; true, and it is hardly to lie denied, how can we expect people in other parts of'the country to do so? t s How manv concern.^ have checked up on It he material they use to see whether the same article in “cotton floods” wouldn't be just as satisfac tory? How many |>rocers have thouj'ht to demand that ail bair^^ containing I'oods shipped them be “cotton baK^^"? ^ -I * K How many jobbers, building; material concerns, contractors and build ers demand that cement and other building products be shipped to them in cotton bajfs in preference to paper, etc.? How many .ladies prefer “cotton snoods" over other kinds of materials? How many men ask for a biKh quality lisle sox in preference to silk ones that look no better and do not wear as long? When we realize what a boon it would be to the Southland, we will all demand that cotton replace Jl'TE as well as SILK. When this happens thousands of Southern families will find ample work atJlJfiiir wajge. the merchant will find trade in all lines humming .. and then, and then only, will Cotton be puFKaBTon fHe^flTrone as “King.** / This'Ts not an appeal to buy/ the product of our manufacturer rather than that of any other cotton mill, but it is hoped that it will help make the people of the South realize that they are holding theqi$elves back by not enthusiastically buying and wearing cotton goods.— — Use More Cotton! Wear. More Cotton! We Hearily Endorse ‘National Cotton Week^ — May 14-19 ° CUNTON COTTON MILLS, CUNTON, S, C. LYPIA COTTON MILLS, CUNTON, S. C JOANNA COTTON MIUS, goldville; s, c. J
