Kitchen, of Laurens, broke the state record for the high hurdle here Friday with a time of 16.1 seconds in the an nual state high school track meet, won by Thomwell orphanage with a ecore of 39 1-2 points. Thom well’s nearest competitor was CoiumMa, a-hich won 34 1-2 points. Records of the emergency relief ad ministration showed Friday that . ap proximately $1,350,000,000 has been turned into relief channels since the first “new’ deal’’ relief appropriation on May 12, 1933. C. unit again received the rating of “ex- jcellent” by the United States war de- jpartment in the annual spring inspec- jtion. Col. J. H.' -Bnockman'^ w'as the ! inspecting officer. j According to schedule, the inspec- Ition wa.s conducted on last Tuesday and Wedne.sday; and the smoothness and order in which the. whole affair went off was sufficient to even sur pass thd^ expectations of those in charge. The final judgment of the in spector gave all branches of the work a rating of “excellent” save one senior subject, tanks, which received “satis factory.” This was considerably better than any other Presbyterian unit has ever made. The inspector gave ^ his personal opinion of the corps when he said this was the best R. 0. T. C. unit he had ever inspected; and also, when he spoke of the attitude of the cadets to military training. “Each man in the battalion seenied to put all he had into the proper execution of the move ments given him,” he said. According to the custom in all in-* spections, the unit assembled early Tuesday morning on the drill field, marched in review and was then in spected by Col. Brockman and the reg ular officers of the unit. Following {this, a company from the battalion, a j platoon from each company, and a squad from each platoon oxhi^ted va rious company, platoon and squad movements Then a war strength pla toon from all companies went through a combat problem. All ‘these perform ances went off excellejitly. On the next day, representatives from all the R. 0. T. C. classes took tests made out by an officer of the regular army, w'hich covered all class work of the year.
