With the school auditorium filled to overflowing, the commencement exer cises of the Joanna school at Goldville, were held on last Thursday evening. The invocation was offered by the Rev. C. C. Vaughn. P. E. Strickland, member of the board of trustees, delivered the prizes for scholarship and attendance, and Principal G. N. Foy presented the di plomas to the ttjembers of the sev enth grade. The address of the evening was de livered by the Rev. Sampel P. Bawle.8 of this city, using as his subject, “Character That Counts.” He said in part: % “There are many essential charac teristics in the character that is going to count in the world, but we will only have time to mention four tonight," Mr. Bowles said. The first mentioned was honesty. He urged the young peo ple to be honest in word and in deed. He culled to their attention the ne- pessity of being honest in school life. .And then the speaker urged them to continue this trait when they entered business.
