MISS MASON HOSTESS TO THIRTEEN CLUB Miss Dorcas Mason entertained the members of the Thirteen club on Fri day afternoon. COLLEGE FRIENDS AT LUNCHEON On Saturday Miss Jeanette Craw ford entertained several of her college friends with a luncheon. The guests were: Misses Janet Leake, Helen Witherspoon, Willie Rudd Fuller, Christine Peake, Isabel Witherspoon, On Thursday evening Mrs. Harris entertained the Musgrove club. MRS. HARRIS ENTERTAINS On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Teague Harris entertained a number of teach ers. A delightful afternoon was spent and a salad course and tea were served by Misses Martha David.son and Lucy Burns to the following teachers: Misses Irene Workman, Lily Yarborough, Alline Newsom, Collette Griffin, Mesdames H. B. Workman, dinner party. Carnations and jonquils were used in decoration. Misses Mar tha and Georgia B. Blakely assisted the hostess. A treasure hunt, chaperoned by Mrs. W. A. Moorhead and Mrs. Geo. H. Ellis, was the feature of the even ing, after which refreshments, con sisting of cream, cake, punch and mints were served. LOVELY TEA ON WEDNESDAY A lovely tea was given on Wednes day afternoon by Mrs. R. E. Wysor and her sister. Miss Mary Lou Bell. Mrs. A. N. Taylor and Mrs. Reese Young entertained with the receiving line composed of Mrs. Wysor, Mrs. S. H. Bell, Miss Mary Lou Bell and Mrs. John Rickets of Greenville. Moorhead entertained with a few tables of rook on last Thursday morning at her attractive home in Goldville, complimentary to Mrs. M. H. Howie, Jr., of Charlotte, N. C., who was her guest for the past week. These enjoying the morn ing were Mesdames Ace Workman, T. B. Sherill, G. N. Foy, Ben Work man, P. E. Strickland, J. C. Purker- son, R. L. Martin, and Hugh Work man. A salad course with Russian tea and mints was served. PUBLIC HOSPITAL NOW PROPOSED Board of Trustees of nine members to be appointed by the delegation from Laurens County in the General As sembly and ther term of office shall be for six years and until their suc cessors are appointed. The term of office of the first three named shall expire two years from the date of their appointment. The term of of fice of the next three named shall ex pire four years from the date of their appointment. The term of office of the last three named shall expire six years from the date of their appoint- mnet and the successors shall be ap pointed for a term of six years so that three members will be appointed every two years. Sec. 8. The Board of Trustees of said hospital shall have the power to make all contracts’ necessary for the construction, maintenance and oper- ceive, accept and acquire for the use Governor, of said hospital any lands, gifts, do nations, devises or pro’^'oriy of any kind and may hold same and use the same for the purpo.se as aforesaid and may make investments and change the investments of funds belonging to said hospital from, time tok, time as .hey may deem it advisable. A bill is now pending in the upper house of the generai assembly provid ing for an election in November of this year on the question of issuing not less than $50,000 in county bonds for the purpose of, estal^ishing a pub lic Iwspital at fcaurans court liotwe. The bill, said to have the endorsement of many interested citizens in the county, was introduced by the mem bers of the lower house and passed that body without opposition. It is now in the senate where its future will rest with Senator (Joodwin. The preamble of the bill states that an offer has been made by the Duke Fy)undation to match every dollar pro vided by the county and to aid in its maintenance. The following is a copy of the bill as passed by the delegation: A BILL To Establish a Laurens County Hos- pi|al at Laurens, S. C., and to Cre ate a Board to Supervise the Man agement of Same. Whereas, an offer has been made to match an amount not exceeding Fifty Thousand ($50,000.00) Dollars for the establishment of a public hos pital at Laurens Court House, for Laurens County, S.‘C., and, Whereas, it is for the public inter est of l4iuren8 County that such hos pital be established and such offer be acc#))te<!, now, therefore, Be it enacted by the General As sembly of the* State of South Caro lina: Sec. 1. That there shall be erected, established and maintained for Lau rens County a hospital at Laurens Court House. Sec. 2. The location for the build ing shall be determined by the Board of Trustees hereinafter provide<l for. Sec. 3. The contract for the con struction of said building shall be let and the furnishing and equipment therefor shall be purchased by the said Board of Trustees hereinafter named. Sec. 4. Upon the completion of the building and the equipment thereof the said Board of Trustees is charged with power and authority to carry on the same operation and maintenance thereof under such rules and regula tions as they may adopt not inconsist ent with the laws of the land.* Sec. 5. To carry out effectively the purposes of this Act the County 3oard of t^ommissioiiers of Laurens County are authorized, directed and empowered to issue bonds of Lau rens County in an amount not exceed ing the sum of Fifty Thousand (450,- 000.00) Dollars, said amount to be determined by the Board of Trustees hereinafter provided and said bonds to be serial bonds and bear interest at such rate as may be determined by the County Board of Commissioners for Laurens County and to be sold at such time and place and in such man ner as may 1^ determined by the County Board of Commissioners of Laurens County; Provided, However, That before such bonds shall be is sued or sold the question of issuing same shall be submitted to the quali fied electors of Laurens County at the general election to be held in Novem ber, 1930, and if such'issuing is ap proved by a majority of those voting at such.election such bonds shall then be issued and sold as herein provided.
