Sellers of Marion county, when he protested against the lavish scale of pay voted the clerks and other at taches of the General Assembly was burnished the press for publication by Mr. Sellers. It is printed as a mat ter of information for the public, in order that the taxpayers may know where some of the money goes. In other departments of the state govern ment—administrative, highway,' edu- eational> etc., the public money is spent with equal prodigality. No won der the appropriation bill totals near ly eleven million dollars and the leg islators are driven frantic in the search for new sources of income by taxation. The suggestion came to The Chron- |icle yesterday, from a public-spirited jand big-hearted citizen, that Clinton should raise a contribution for the Mississippi valley sufferers. Already sueh-aetion has been taken at the or phanage and a contribution is being collected there to apply to the general relief fund. Individuals throughout the city are asked to follow this ex ample. • The money contributed in Clinton will be forwarded through the State Red Cross organization and citizens are asked to contribute any amounts they feel able to give. Contributions may be handed C. A. Fleming at the j orphanage, F* M. Boland at the Com-! mercial bank, Geo. W. Copeland at the , First National bank, and R. C. Adair, at Bailey’s Bank. A RESOLUTION The items mentioned cover pay of attaches only up to April 1st and as we will not adjourn until the latter part of this week, these items will, be increased about 25 per cent, or .I might say alittle more than 25 per cent.
