Harvey Witherspoon charmingly en tertained with a rook ’uncheon in honor of Miss Phoebe Witherspoon’s house party. Miss Isabel Withefspoon is a member of the houtfe party in Laurens. Mrs. Raymond Pitts and Miss Frances Witherspoon assisted the hostess in entertaining and serving three elegant courses. The guests in cluded: Misses Phoebe Witherspoon of Laurens, Anne Morris of Greenville, Ruth and Langhom Howard of Au gusta, Kathleen McCain of Greenville, Frankie Campbell of Westminster. In addition to the hoqse party guests were Misses Elizabeth and Lilo Salt ers of Rock Hill, and Miss Frances Jean Bowen of Sung Kiangl China. o — MISS SPARKS ENTERTAINS IN HONOR OF HER COUSINS Miss Louise Sparks entertained a few friends with a loVely evening party in honor of her cousins, Miss Georgia Mae Estill pf Beaufort, and Fuller, Janet Leake, Lidie Dpvis, and Jeanette Crawford. Music also added to the pleasure of -the occasion and Mrs. Lee Add Blake ly,. Misses Mae Owens, Betty Wood- worth and Katherine Jones presided at the Brunswick. « About seventy-five members of the younger set called between the houf of six and seven. SUM EREL-AUSTIN WEDDING * A quiet home wedding was solemn ized on June 25th, when Miss Dell Sumerel and Mr. Johnnie Austin were married at noon at the residence of the bride's brother, Mr. Ryland Sum erel. i The impressive ring ceremony was used by Dr. Weston Bruner of Laurens, the bride’s pastor. Just a few ihitimate friends and .relatives were present to witness the ceremony. Immediately after the ceremony the bride and groom left by motor for the seashore. . . ■ » - , The bride, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Sumerel, is a young lady of many attainments and very popular, having taught school in Laurens county for the past two years. Mr. Austin is a popular mechanician of Laurens. After a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Austin will be at home to their many friends at Laurens, S. C. Thanks, Progressive Clintonians! June 27.—The annual reunion of the R. S. Griffin family was held Sunday when the descend ants of the late Mr. R. S. and Mrs. Elizabeth Griffin met at the old Grif fin homestead near Bethabara church -to enjoy ,a day together. Included in the members of this family are six children, Messers. W. V. Pinson, hon oring her niece, Miss Louella Watts, of Mountville. After an hour of pro- gressivfe conversation, many amusing games were played, directed by Miss- es 'Margaret and Katherine Blakely. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Misses Mar garet and Katherine Blakely, Alma Ruth Cooper, Frances Dutton. Those enjoying Mrs. Pinson’s hospitality were: Misses Louella Watts, Frances Blakely, Elizabeth Zeigler, Martha Blakely, Frances Dutton, Ruth Stew art, Lucile Nelson, AEma Ruth Cooper, Alva Wilson, Josie Vaughn, Nellie fection together. One fact in regard to this family which can be said of; only few others, desires mention here. That is, every member still lives in this immediate community where the parents made th^ir home, and two of the children, Mr. John F. Griffin and Mrs. Lillian Hill remain at the. old home place. It was our privilege to witness the marriage of Miss Adeliade Cureton to Mr. Willie E. Bell Monday at noon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Culbertson in Laurens. These are fine young people, both of Greenville, and have our best wishes for happiness and prosperty. They are off for a two weeks stay in Asheville and other mountain resorts, after which they will make their home in Greenville where Mr. Bell is connected with the P. and N. Railway Company. A serious aecidehtTwas barely avoid ed Saturday afternoon a few miles below town when a negro man jumped from his buggy just before a car driv en by Fayette Stevens ran into the horse and buggy. Except a few bruises received by the horse and some minor injuries to the vehicles, no damage was done. But it should be a warning against unguarded and un necessarily rapid driving on the public highway where every one has a right to travel in safety. Mr. Penn and Miss Emmie Good man have recently had their dwelling recovered and are now putting on a new coat of paint, which repairs add much to the appearance and comfort of their home.
