The persistence of the bobbed coif fure has resulted in the general prev alence of the small h&t. despite the most determined efforts to end Its domination, declares a Paris fashion correspondent In the New York Her ald-Tribune. The Parlslenne at Monte Carlo seems unwilling .to accept any thing odd In millinery—she Is too de voted to the small, becoming, youth ful hat of past seasons. She con tinues to bob her hair and that Im poses a handicap upon the modiste. On the Riviera, where most of the spring novelties have their first tryout, only the most discreet models are be ing shown, and all the taste continues to be for the small, simply trimmed felt or velours. The first straws of tbd'Aiaooa are simulations of fabric effects. Talbot 4s using angora straws In her early hats and also what Is known as paille.de sole. Talbot Is making quite a feature 'of pale reseda green silk straw. She has an attractive new high crown model developed of this material In a lovely shade of green. The crown Is pinched In at Just the proper point to give the shape a chic IWe and Is trimmed wltfi silk and ribbon flowers that take the form of carnations. The glossy silk braid which forms the en tire shape Is faced on the under brim with a dull plcot straw. The flowers are half dull ‘and half brilliant, be ing made of grosgrain ribbon and strands of artifleial silk, Lewis, who has a popular hat shop in Monte Carlo, is using a straw cloth which Is woven to look like a corded silk. STORE HELD-UP- AT SPARTANBURG Spartanburg, April 13.—Two un masked men held up Broadus Little john and J- M. Lark at the point of pistols this morning shortly after 7:10 o’clock at Cantrell and Little john’s store on Trade street and after small car belonging to Mr. Littlejohn. Soon after the store was opened for business this morning and while Mr. Littlejohn was in his office and Mr. Lark was near the front of the store, two well dressed men; about 35 and 23 years of age, respectively, entered the building. One of them asked to see the man in the rear while the oth er said he would wait for him. In an instant, Mr. Lark was covered with a revolver by the man near his side. He was ordered to open th£ safe and when he refused to do so, Mr. Little john, who was also covered with a re volver, told the outlaws that the safe was already open. While one of the bandits held Mr. Lark and Mr. Little john at the point of his revolver the other plundered the safe and removed $50 in silver. ‘ After securing the money the younger man kept Mr. Littlejohn and Mr. Lark “covered” until his pal sig nalled from the front where he had got into Littlejohn’s car and started the motor. At the signal the younger man made a break for the car and the two drove rapidly away. Later the stolen Car was recovered, it having been abandoned a few blocks from where the robbery took place. In lifting the money from the safe the robbers failed to get the drawer with several hundred dollars in’ paper money and also failed to rob the cash drawer to which most of the change had been transferred. All they ob tained was a bag containing about $50 in silver. LAURENS LAYMEN ORGANIZE CLUB Men’s Federation To Hold Daily Prayer Meeting and Engage In Evangelistic Work. Laurens, April 10.—One of the out standing results of the recent religi ous campaign in Laurens is the or ganization of the Men’s Federation, which is the outgrowth of the prayer meetings conducted in the court house every morning during the greater part of the Ham-Ramsay meeting. It was inaugurated by Mr. Ramsay, and at 8:30 every morning services were held for thirty minutes, different ones be ing assigned to lead the meeting. Now, it is the purpose to perpetu ate the fine mornijig prayer service as a regularly organized band of men, with duly elected officers, team cap tains, and so on. Albert C. Todd has been elected president; C. B. Bobo, Dr. W. H. Dial and W. R. Richey, Sr., vice presidents; L. C. Barksdale, secretary and treas urer. Several team captains have also been chosen as follows: C. H. Casque, E. P. Minter, €L H. Roper, A. N. Bramlett, W. P. Thomason, E. C. Wolfe, and W. B. Knight. The membership of the federation will be divide^ among the captains and each team captain will in tun\ ar range for each morning service. In addition, these fcaders will be asked to go out with teams for special Christian'work, wherever the call may be, and in this way the laymen will place themselves in position to do gieat things, it is believed. sembllng hair. This ornament Is perched high on the ciWn. In-another model two tiny rlffleblrds are resting serosa the top of a high crown with their bills pointed to the skies. The aigrette is still very fashionable In France and many of the smartest hats are adorned with glistening pom pons of this most delicate and airy feather. There Is a great fancy for these little tassel-llke ornaments In several colors, either perched on the crown to give height or else saucily turned down over one ear. The all red hat retains a surpris ing popularity. It is seen In felt, in straw cloth, in grosgrain silk and In straw, notably In dyed bangkok and plcot. The peanut straw is used where a less expensive hat Is desired, as the bangkok remains very high in price on account of the rate of exchange counted against the franc. A few ‘ metal turbans are seen In the evening, but these are exceptional. Some are in the tjvlsted Oriental style and others are the coronet form.
