Spartanburg, Feb. 16.—Manton In gram Steele, of Olanta, a member of the freshman class at Wofford col lege, died suddenly this afternoon in the main dormitory while boxing with Harry Turner, also a freshman of Blacksburg. The verdict of a coroner’s jury, em paneled at 7:30 o’clock tonight, was that the deceased came to his death from heart failure while boxing, ab solving his boxing opponent from blame. Steele recently recovered from an attack of influenza and the physician conducting the post-mortem examina tion, expressed the opinion that the sickness had weakened his heart ac tion. The opponents had exchanged about a dozen blows on the arms and chest, when Steele apparently lost his bal ance and collapsed, but was caught in the arms of F. A. Stack of Pinewood, another student, before his head struck the floor, according to testi mony at the inquest. While versions of the affair differ ed in a few minor details, all wifness- es agreed that the boxing was a friendly affair and that no malice existed. Manton Steele was the son* of J. A. Steele, prominent farmer of Olan ta.
