Clinton Girls Win Over Gray Court The Clinton Hi girls basketball team defeated the Gray Court-Ow- ings girls yesterday afternoon by the score of 24 to 12 in a well played game. This was the v first match game of the fall and under the direction of their coach, Miss Theo Liles, indica tions point to a winning team for the approaching season. Clinton’s line-up was as follows: Alma Ruth Cooper ai\d Kate Robinson, forwards; Elmira Raty’and Lucy Bailey, guards; Marion Copeland, jumping center; Julia Riddle, running center. The Declaration of God (John 1:14-16). _ 1. By Whom (v. 14)? The Word. The historic person Jesus Christ is called the Word of God because He Is the expression of God to men. The eternal God has declared himself In Jesus Christ. Observe: (1) That Jesus Christ Is. a person, separate and distinct from the Father, yet there exists an Inseparable union between them (v. 1). (2) He Is eternal (v. 2). He was with God in the beginning. He did not begin to exist when the heavens and the earth were created. He was before all things (Col. 1:17). (3) He Is God (v. 1). He is not only a being equal with God but one In essence with Him. (4) He Is the omnipotent Creator (▼. 8) by whom were all things made, the world and all things therein. (5) Me Is the Source of all Ufa (v. 4). yHe Is the eternaf fountain from which all life has been derived. All living beings have derived their life from Him—are dependent upon Him for the maintenance of life. (0) He Is/the Light of ipen (v. 4). The light of reason came from Him. 2. How Made (v. 14). Through sin, man who was made In the like ness and Image of God, lost knowl edge and touch with God. The su preme need, therefore, was a tangible revelation, one / he could touch and handle, that la, verify with the senses. This was done through the Incarnation of the Word. Jesus Christ Is not merely a representative of God. but He Is absolutely and essentially God. It was the eternal Word who became flesh. In the virgin birth of Christ God became Incorporated with hu manity. He did not merely become a Jew. He was the “Son of Man.” His relation Is racial. 3. The Witnesses (vv. 15-17). (1) The Baptist (v. 15). John the Baptist was the herald of the,eternal Word who was the jevenler of God. (2) John the Evangelist and His Fellow Disciples (v. 10). Their exjie- rience of God’s grace of salvation was the proof of the coming of God’s rep resentative. 4. The Need (v. 18). Sinful man was blind, therefore could not per ceive God. If»man was ever to know God, God must adapt Himself to man’s need. II. The Supreme Reason Why God Revealed Himself (John 3:16-21). 1. His Great Love (v. 10). Pri marily God’s boundless affection moved Him to reveal Himself as the Savior of men. Concerning this sal vation note: (1) Its origin. “God .so loved the world.” It proceeded out of the lov ing heart of God. (2) Its ground. “He gave His only begotten son.” Man’s salvation rests upon the death of Christ. (3) Its recipients. “Whosoever be- lleveth.” That means whosoever in my age, race or clime receives Jesus Christ is saved. (4) How appropriated. “Believeth on Him.” This great salvation, which oroceeded from the loving heart of 'hid, is offered to whosoever will take 't on the simple condition of receiving it. (5) Tffc effects. a. it issues In eternal life. Christ Is the source of life. Those who re ceive Him are made'partakers In that lift*. Therefore all who are in Christ have eternal, life. h. It saves from perishing. Those who accept Jesus Christ are eternally saved. 2. The World’s Great Need (w. 17-21). The world was under condem nation, It was without help to save itself. Pa per is a poor conductor of heat and so j^eeps the heat in. instead of allowing it to get out. Spread a thick blanket or small comforter over the mattress, tucking It in smooth and tight all around. Then put In your sheets. Tuck these in at the foot and ^ides, especially at- the foot. Have your top sheet long enough to fold over the blankets. Now about covers. A wool blanket and a cotton comforter are warmer than two comforters. A light top cover that is windproof will keep your bed warm. The bedding rolls used during the war had a canvas flap that came over the top of the bed and tied in by ropes. Tills w-as windproof and waterproof. If you can’t get a canvas/cover for your bed, take, two old blankets, spread a layer of newspapers between and tie them together like the old- fashioned comfort'irs our grandmoth ers made. Wear a flannel nightgown, lon._ sleeved and long enough to cover the feet. A night cup for those that like it. _ Put a hot water bag or bottle, or a couple of hot bricks, well wrapped Into the foot of the lied. A lot of trouble? Some.
