Mr. Wright is known to his scores of friends throughout the country as “Chautauqua Bill." He has been as sociated with the Redpath Lyceum and Chautauqua bureau for eleven years and this is his tenth tour on this great de luxe circuit. Mr. Wright is special publicity manager for Harrison and Harshbar- ger of Chicago, American managers of American grand opera stars, in cluding Charles Marshall, heroic tenor, of Chicago Civic Opera com pany. “Bill” was first post commander of the La Rue Messenger Post, No. 26, Niles, Michigan, re-elected the second year without opposition, and is much interested in ex-service men, and recommends the program as the best given here by either the Redpath or any other organization in the way of a week’s entertainment with music, plays and lectures. “It costs about $500 a week more than that given here last year," he says. An innovation introduced by Red path last year in the supplying of all their tents on this circuit with Grand pianos is carried out this season. This is unique in the Chautauqua field and a costly practice for the management. Associated with “Bill" here are four college crew boys. They are Arthur V. I hereby announce myself as a can didate for re-election to the office of Sheriff of Laurens County, subject WHEREAS: A petition of the ma jority of the freeholders of the Town of Clinton, County of Laurens, State of South Carolina, as shown by the tax books, has been Hied with the Town Council of the said town pray ing for an order for a special elect ion in said town for the purpose of submitting to the qualified, registered electors of the said Town of Clin ton, the question whether or not the said Town of Clinton ,South Carolina, shall issue coupon bonds of the said town in an amount not to exceed $100,000 and that the proceeds from the sale of said bonds when issued be used for the purpose of purchas ing water-right, erecting; dam, pur chasing right of way for tank line, erecting and constructing pumping station, filtering plant and tank line, either within or without the city limits of the said Town of Clinton, and for the purpose of extending water mains and sewer mains and other extensions or improvements on the water plant and rystem of said town and such other purposes as may be necessary in procuring, maintain ing and supplying an adequate water supply and sewerage system within said town; and to levy a tax for the retirement of said bonds, and said bonds to be issued on such terms as may be deemed most profitable and expedient by the Town Council of said town. And. WHEREAS: It appears that said petition is in due xorm of law and has been signed by the required num ber of free-holders, as prescribed by the Constitution and Statute Laws of this state; and, WHEREAS: The Town Council of the said Town of Clinton in Council assembled did on the 22nd day of April, 1924, and by virtbe of the same, order, ordain and resolve that the prayer of the said petition be granted. It is therefore by the Town Coun cil of the Town of Clinton, County of Laurens, State of South Carolina, in Council assembled and by virtue of the same, ordered, ordained and resolved: That the question of the said bond issue be submitted to the qualified registered electors of the said town at a special election to be held in said town on Tuesday, the 20th day of May, 1924, for the pur pose as required by law of submit ting said question to the qualified, registered electors of said town. That said bonds, if authorized by a majority of the qualified, registered electors of said town voting in the election hereinafter ordered, shall be issued by the Town Council of the said Town of Clinton; the interest rate on said bonds not to exceed six (6%) per annum; said bonds to be issued in such denominations and maturing at such period or periods as permitted by law regulating the issuance of Municipal securities and as may be determined as most expe dient and profitable by the Town Council of the said Town of Clin ton. That W. D,. Copeland is here by appointed supervisor of registra tion of said town and he is hereby directed to bpen the books of regis tration twenty (20) days prior to said election and keep them open for a period of ten (10) days for the purpose of registering the names of the qualified,electors of the said Town of Clinton and that he shall give due notice of the time and place of opening said books of registration. That at said election, only qualified, registered electors of the Town«of Clinton shall be entitled to vote; that the books shall be open at 8:00 o’clock in the forenoon and close at 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon; that there shall be printed two ballots and a sufficient supply of each and on one ballot shall be printed the word “Yes" and on the other ballot shall be printed the word “No.” The electors voting against the issue of bonds shall vote the ballot contain ing the word “No"; and the electors voting for the .issue of said bonds shall, vote the ballot containing the word “Yes.” - That said election shall be held at the City Station-house in front of Bailey's Bunk in the Town of Clinton, S. C., and that at said election T.' F. Mitim and J. Calvin Templeton and J. H. Donnan shall act as managers thereof, and shall open the polls at said place in said town at 8:00 o’clock in the forenoon and close at 4:00 o’clock in the after noon the same day. That the Town Clerk shall give notice of said elect ion by publishing the same in “The Clinton Chronicle," a newspaper pub lished ifi the Town of Clinton, Coun ty of Laurens, State of South Caro lina, once a week for four, weeks prior to said election and by posting copies thereof in three public places of said town four weeks before said election.
