The occasion was quite a surprise to him and a thoroughly en joyable one. « In the center of the table was an enormous Jack Horner pie made of a large yellow rose surrounded by many smaller roses. From each lit- tle rose rah a yellow ribbon streimir which when pulled brought forth a cigar. An elegant dinner was serv ed and the guests of honor were: Drs. F. K. Shealy, J. W. Davis, D. 0/ Rhame, Felder Smith, E. Mood Smith, R. W. Johnson, M. J. McFad- den. The guests presented Dr. Shealy with a medical book. ENTERTAINS FOR RECENT BRIDE On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. T. D. Copeland entertained' in a charm ing manner in honor of Mrs. George Watts Copeland. Rook was enjoyed and a delectable salad course was served with iced tea. The guests in cluded: Mesdamea G. Bailey and Mrs. Hugh Simp son were elected members. TEACHERS MET HERE FRIDAY * v Miss Kate V. Wofford, county sup erintendent of education, haa divided the county, teachers into groups ©en tering around the most convenient high school. The seventh group meet ing was held in Clinton on Friday and the teachers spent the day ob serving the teachers of the city schools. At one-thirty a hot lunch was served by the Civic Improvement Association to the visiting teachers, teachers of Lydia, and teachers of the city wjth the trustees and their wives. In all about sbety were present. Af ter 'lunch the demonstration lesson, taught by Misses Louise Moore, Edith Mills, and Olive Tuck, were discuss ed by Dr. Bruner of Laurens, Prof. J. H. Witherspoon, and Miss Kate Wofford. ENTERTAIN FRIENDS WITH LOVELY DINNER On R. E. Sadler entertained several friends with a lovely course dinner. Massed jonquils added the touch of color. Mrs. Wilson was as sisted in entertaining by her daugh ter, Miss Ella Belle and Miss Maiy Pitts. Finned invited the guests to have punch which was serv ed by Mra. Irby S. Hipp and Lula Davidson. In this room Mrs. Harry Landrum and Mrs. Arthur Copeland entertained. Misses Martha Reed Todd, Janet Leake, and Alvah Wilson delighted the guests with victrola se lections. About two hundred and fifty guests called. LADIES METHODIST CIRCLE MEET On Monday eveaing at the meet ing of Circle No. 4 of the Methodist church at the home of Mrs. R. W. Johnson and 0. T. La wing, Miss Gladys Wilson was. the efficient leader of the program. After the program was concluded some one remarked that Miss Roslyn Blakely's number had bean overlook so she then read the following; "Once there was a girl—her name was ‘Cota.’ ” And there was a hoy named "Sub," my! how he did adore her! They got married on a beautiful day and went to Charleston. But—they didn't stay. Now they are back at you plainly And are as happy as thpy can be. They may think they can live on love and such stuff, But we believe they will soon find that isn't enough. So we bring a few things for the home of a bride, And with them lota of joy Ad happiness beside. . This feature of the jprogr&m came as a completed surprise to Mrs. Sul livan Holland and before she could really grasp the situation little Otho Johnson rolled in a beautifully decor ated express wagon laden with lovely gifts. The bride in a very appre ciative manner thanked her kind friends. Two Laurens Banks Merged Into One Laurens, March 11.—The proposal to merge the Peoples Loan and Ex change Bank and the Enterprise National Bank, was given approval today at meetings of the stockholders of- each institution, officially called for the purpose of passing on the matter. With the merger plan, au thorized by the stockholders, of both banks, there win be a joint meeting next Tuesday for the purpose of carrying the plaq into effect by the election of directors and the adminis trative officers. The proposed new hank will be known as the Peoples Enterprise Bank and will ha organiz ed as a state banl^ Presbyterians Plan Canvasses Sunday, The congregations of. the First Presbyterian and the Thornwell Mem orial churches will inaugurate their annual every-member canvasses next Sunday afternoon at which time a wfaiirwind drive will be made to raise the year's budgets both for benevo lences and church expenses. In the living room pink and white prevailed while in the punch room masses of jon quils added the color. The dining room in St. Patrick decorations at tracted particular attention.
