Schaible of Coker Colege began a series of protracted neetings at Piney Grove Baptist :hurch Sunday morning. The meetngs are being well attended but owng to the fact that Prof. Schaible vill have to leave this week it is probable the meetings will close Frilay night. _ .. Last Saturday morning about 10 clock Will Lovell was accidentally hot through the left hand while cleaning up his pistol. Roberts, principal of he Dillon schools, is in town this veek arranging for the opening of the schools during the second week in September. Prof. Roberts will leave lext week for Saluda, N. C., where ie will enjoy a brief vacation with lis family, and upon his return to Dilon will occupy the Carmichael resilence on East Main street which he las purchased. Mr. Hoyt Watson of Latta has ?een appointed Alumni Chairman for )illon county by the Alumni Assoiation of the University of South Carolina, which has undertaken to pise a fund of $30,000, payable in hree annual installments, with which o employ an Alumni Executive Secetary at the University. Dillon couny's allotment for the three years is 1374. Floyd Surles and his two children ore visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Surles of this city. Rev. Mr. Surles is now pastor of the Baptist church of Ada, Kans., where he has served for two years. He is a Dillon county boy but has been out of the state for eleven years. Previous to his present pastorate he served us pastor in both Kentucky and Missouri. It has been three years since he last visited in L'llon and of course he is glad to be with friends and relatives once more. He is away on his summer vacation and will spend the most of August in thic ctilto o Soldiers Can Vote. The State Democratic Executive Committee decided at its recent meeting that soldiers who were not enrolled could not vote. This decision of the committee was very disappointing to the soldiers who felt that it was not their fault because they did not enroll as many of them were over-seas while others were in the cantonments at home. This difficulty, however, can be removed by permitting the soldiers to vote in an envelope write their name and the name of their company and regiment on the back of the envelope and hand it over to the managers. If the county or state executive committees do not see fit to count these votes this method of voting will not invalidate the election. It is the opinion of men who have studied the rules of the party that votes cast in this manner will be legal, but the executive committees in canvassing the ballots may take the opposite view of the matter. As stated above, however, no harm can result from this method of voting. If the committees decide the votes are not legal they can refuse to count them and that will end the matter. The C. & B.
