COTTON AM> THE ACREAGE. Department of Agriculture Issues Figures on the (ironing Crop. Cotton production this year is forr cast at 10,986,000 equivalent 500pound bales by the; department of agriculture, basing its estimates ui June 25 condition of the growing crop, which was 70 per cent, of normal, and an area of 33,960,000 acres under cultivation on that date. WThe acreage and condition on June 25 by states! follows: Virginia 38,000 acres, and condition 82. North Carolina 1,454,000 and 83. South Carolina 2,706,000 abd 78. Georgia 5,262,000 and 72. Florida 122,000 and 57. Alabama 2,990,000 and 67. Mississippi 2,939,000 and 63. . Louisiana 1,445,000 and 61. Texas 10,755,000 and 69. Arkansas 2,7.01,000 -and 64. Missouri 124,000 and 60. Oklahoma 2,456,000 and 69. Arizona 115,000 and 93. All other states 15,000 and 100. Production last year was 12,000,000, bales, two years ago 11.302,000, three years ago 11,450,000 and four years ago 11,190,000. This year's area under cultivation June 25 compares with 37,073,000 acres under cultivation that date last year and 35,890,000 acres picked. The June 25 condition compares with 75.6 per cent, of normal condition on May 25 this year, 85.8 per cent on June last year and 80.3 per cent, the average condition for the last ten years on June 25. The condition reported today forecasts a yield of 156.4 pounds per acre and the forecast of total production on that basis allows 1 per cent from the planted area for abandonment. The final out turn will prob ably be larger or smaller than the amount forecast as conditions hereafter are better or worse than the average. Sea island production was foreca'st at 15.000 bales and Egyptian at 45.000 bales, making a total of 50.000 bales compared with 88,395 bales last year. A heavy decrease in sea island acre, age was reported because of boll weevil activities. Sea island and Egyptian acreage this year is 162,000 acres or which 65.000 is sea island compared with a combined acreage of 258,000 last year. Sea island acreage and production forecast by states follows: Georgia 25,000 acres and 6.000 bales. Florida 200,000 and 2,000. B. Hair, was shot and fatally wounded here last night by G. W. Kinard who mistakenly took him for a burglar a party or ^hich Kinard was a member was trying to capture. Hair and several young people were at the home of a friend opposite the store of Mr. Kinard when they noticed three men go behind Mr. Kinard's establishment and latifc- heard them break in the store. Several men, in eluding Mr. Kinard, who had been notified, surrounded the building t< capture the burglars and when ? Hair came around thdt corner Mr. Kinaid shot him with a shotgun thinking him -as one oi' the burglars. The load took effect in the abdomen, puncturing the intestines over 100 times.
