' DILLON, S. t\, OCT. 27, 1?MO. e ? 1 ? The "Unloaded Gull." f Borne people have a habit of ^ planking with unloaded guns. The man who pranks with the unloaded gun is similar in many respects to the fellow who rocks the boat. Both . are dangerous individuals. Recently the papers have contained sevnS eial accounts of accidents and tragedies from "unloaded guns." There is a way of puniBhing such people Ha without confining them in an asylum. The statues provide a penalty and the penalty should be en) forced. Section 359 of the "Acts and Joint Resolutions of the General Assembly for 1910" contains the following: "That from and after the aplt:4 proval of this Act it shall be unlawful for any person to present or point at another person any loaded or unloaded firearm, and anyone, on conviction therefor, shall be punished by fine or imprisonment in the descretion of til** Pniirt* Prftvirias*! + nrvtb ' tugr contained herein shall be construed to abridge the right of selfdefence or to apply to theatricals or like performances." This law has been in force nearly a year but so far as we have beard of no convictions for any violation of its provisions, and a law that Is ) never enforced quickly becomes a dead law. We are very much afraid the census figures for Dillon have not been padden. _ The escape of four prisoners from the guard house should cause the court house commission to sit up and take notice. The public will be interested to km w that while cotton is going up the nrice of radium in minir Thi> latest quotation is $2,100,000 ver ounce. .Monday Colonel Kooaevelt rode 02 miles In an automobile, Inspected half a dozen big farms and made three speeches for the Republican ticket. That is what we call "going some." ' ______________ if it pays the owners of depart|t inent stores in New York to install ? wireless telegraph apparatus so that patrons on vessels approaching port can do their shopping beore they land, wouldn't it pay Dillon merchants to work for the ex tension of telephone lines into rural communities so that farmers can make their purchases without coming to town? "What's the matter with the court house commission?" is a question frequently asked nowadays. I 1 lie commissioners meet regularly every first Monday, but for some reason they are unable to agree upon a site for the public buildings. It has been over six months Ka since an election was held to issue j bouda for the erection of a court house and Jail, but It in under ,od that the conimlwloners have > oL as I I' V.- yet taken the preliminary of ? employing a cotnjetent arcnueci to submit plans and specifications, althoi ^ the act Orefttt^ir the coml savage comrala aion must employ such architect "as soon as practicable after the ' ; election upon said bond Issue Is tlQI the 1 held." Get together, gentlemen, j and let's have a court house and Rjre jail. If the commission is hopeless- lev! ly divided on the question of local- con ing the public buildings, submit the i a101 matter to the voters of the town. al< The work of organizing the county ^ is greatly handicapped by the lack of suitable quarters in which to in transact public affairs.
