"WOEATM OF MRS. W. M. HAMtR Seldom has it been our duty to chronicle a death so sad as that of Mrs. W. M. Hatner which occurred at her residence last Friday, evening at 10:30 o'clock. A dark gloom spread over the whole community when it was whispered from one to anothei that during the night the spirit of this most estimable lady had taken its heavenly flight. Only a few years ago ..u_ 4,. rvn? 41? i?!j.. -r mic caiiic iu uiuuu as nit: unuc or one of our most honored and respected citizens, and during her rosidence here she had gathered around her a large circle oi friends who are today ho wed down in grief over her untimely deaili. Mrs, Hamer had been ill only a few weeks but her illness was not looked upon with alarm. Preparations had been made to carry her to an infirmary on the day following her death where it was hoped that she would speech!y recover from her illness, but on Friday evening she passed away almost before the members of the household could be summoned to her bedside. Among us all she ranked always as a woman of culture, refinement, sympathy; a kind neighbor, devoted mother and true friend, and withal a woman of heroic mould in bravely meeting' the stern requirements of life. Her home instincts were strong and her affection for her friends and kindred was tender and abiding. She was an everyday christian. The beautifying influences of a pure religion were spread over a life and character as spotless and charming as was ever possessed by any of the noble wo men who had lived and died during the ages that are gone. As such a life was a blessing and benefaction to all within the sphere of it^ influence so is the death of such a one a public misfortune, as well a> an irreparable loss to the home, irele made desolate by her departure. C. Kirkland, assisted by Rev Mr. Turnipseed of the Fir-t Metii odist church of Bennettsviile. Tin floral offerings were many ami beautiful, but none surpassed in beauty the floral shaft from the ladies of the Home Missionary Society of Dillon of which Mrs. 1 lamer was the president J In addition to a husband and three small daughters Mrs. I lamer is survived by her parents, Col. and Mrs. Knox Livingston, of J?cnnettsvillc: a brother. Mr. Van Livingston of Atlanta, and a sister. Mrs- J. E. Haynesworth. of (ireenville Her untimely death is a great loss to the social life of the community and an irreparable loss U the church and to the several so cieties of which she was a valued member.
