Being Heard Columbia, June 23..Thn ^famous “canal case” of whK-.u so much Las been heard in ch-.t pmt few wears is at last reached trial in the courts. The case was begun Monday in the court of common pleas in the Rich land county court house which Judge W. H. Townsend of Columbia pre siding. It is expected that the .case will consume nil of the present week. Tlie ev'dence brings into the rec ords of the court many documents, maps, and other paj^erfs which arc b"ing introduced as “exhibits.* As will be recalled the state enter- ! ed suit against the* Columbia Rail- i way, Gas and Electric Co., in which the state would compel the company i to complete the canal. The state al- ! leges that ownership of the canal is i conditional upon its completion. Attorney General S. M. Wolfe is representing the state while R. Bev- erlev Herbert. N. C.. June 30—Tin embargo on the movement of freight t a * ns through the Potomac yards, caused by the strike a raw days ago. has been lifted and the Atlantic Coast Line is now operating solid cars from the South to northern cities. During the first Tew days of the strike of the Potomac yard trainmen Die Coast Line was unable to niove any freight north of the Virgiina capital on account of the fact that nothing but passenger trains were allowed to operate through the yards which are Just sr.nth of Washingtou. To relieve this condition all per- ishable vegetables that were des tined to the north from points south of Richmond on the Coast Line bad to lie shipped by express. Until \Ionday the Coast Line was daily operating solid trains of ex press cars from points as far south as Florida.
