Every man of them deserves the highest con sideration. The issue in this matter is whether the country should obligate itself now by some form of taxation that will unquestionably run for sev eral years in a sum of two or possi bly three billion dollars for extra compensation at a time when every dollar taken from the people in taxes bears doubly, if not trqbly, upon them eventually in living costs. Nor will the change in the form of bonus financing lessen the vital ob jection to any kind of cash payments, however distributed, on the score that such a gift will slacken produc tion by lessening the amount of work for a period, at a time when the most urgent need, of the country is for la bor.—Washington Star.
