THRONGS GATHER ON SCHOOL GROUNDS TO HEAR SPLEN DID PROGRAM LIVE INTEREST BEING TAKEN IN REORGANIZATION COURT RECESSED FLORENCE COUNTY HANDSOME PRIZES NEWS OF UNTIL TOMORROW CONVENTION TN At the conclusion of the service lost evening, the second of the series and the first day of the revival at the Central Methodist church, the crowd had reached such size that the offi cers of the church determined imme diately to build a platform for the preacher which will make practicaly every room in the two greatvaudftori- ums available for the audience. Approximately 1,200 persons were present last evening and probably well over 2.000 persons heard the preacher in the two sermons yester day, including the morning and even 1 ing. Both morning and evening.* chairs had to be placed in the aisles and the great Sunday school auditori um was opened and thrown into the main auditorium of the church—and still the galleries were iillcd to stand- i is room only l»ev. Luther Bridge-., D. D„ is the preacher and Rev. Homer S. Jenkins is the singer. Incidently—and the 2,- 000 odd persons who heard him yes terday pronounce him a good one. In the morning, Dr. Bridges preach ed on the subject of the Adamic con demnation of man and of his salva tion through Christ. In the evening he preached on the invitation of the Saviour. “Come unto Me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden; and I will give! you rest,” taking the last three verses of 11th St. Matthew as his text. While not lacking aught in zeal or vigor. Dr. Bridgers is different from the Methodist revivalist as generall pictured. He relies more on the drawing power of the love and sacri fice by Christ, than ‘.the hell fire damnation” kind of preaching. Both his sermons yesterday dwelled at length on the love of Christ for hu mans, of his sacrifice, of his salva tion, and of his invitation to “come unto Me and rest.” Last night he touched emphatically upon the spirit of unrest throughout the word today, termed the red radi cals of the United States as Damna ble and despicable. “When these peo ple come over here, and try to dis rupt and overthrow our government, send ’em back where they come from” he said with fire. Dr. Bridgers is one preacher who preaches from experience and from the test of his own faith he declares, “1 know Jesus saves and comforts." One of the tests was the loss of his wife and three children, just small babies, in a fire. Hardly was there a dry eye in the congregation as he told humby but touchingly of this test. Mr. Jenkins lead a rousing song service in opening the evening hour. Good singing and plenty of it is one of the features of the services. One | cannot help but sing—everybody does. Services will be held every evening at 8 o’clock. A service was held this afternoon at 4 o’clock, but effective tomorrow will be held at 11 o’clock in the morning. Everyone is .invited to attend. Parents will also be asked to keep a sharp eye on their children and not permit them to run wild dur ing the concerts.
