of the Metioolitan Opera Company,

College, Hartsville, Monday night

self-propelled road vehicle, could visit
the United States today, he would
be astonished, perhaps, to find the
horse almost obsolete, the Unites
government on the eve of spending
J683.000.000 for good roads and fac
tories turning out automobile trucks
at the rate of about one "thousand a
day.
Motor truck traffic between indus
trial centres in Connecticut and New
York City, Boston and Providence
lias reached such great proportions
that state highway commissioners are
urging shippers to restrict the maxi
mum load on trucks to 25,00') pounds.
According to the National Automo
bile Chamber of Commerce utilization
of the motor truck is enabling the
railroads to "catch up" with traffic
needs which mounted so enormously
during the war.
