zation of women in Columbia have
taken a step, which they jire trying
to have imitated throughout the na
tion. which Is said to embody a sane,

afternoon pledged themselves to buy
only the necessities of life, their aim
being to bring down the cost of ne
cessities.
The auxiliary is sending report of
their action broadcast and they are
urging that other auxiliaries in South
Carolina and other states follow
Uiefr example. The program ado^t
ed is simply a pledge to buy only
cessities of life.
This organization of engineers
wives are asking other women’s
bodies to adopt simalar programs.
They have urged that they communi
cate with Mrs. J. (J. Price, past presi
dent, or with Mrs. A. R. Brown, presi
dent, both of Columbia, with regard
to the movement and plans for adopt-

rhange during the past week. He
was interested in securing informa
tion leading up to Die organization of
an Exchange in Florence, and was
furnished with a copy of Die organic
articles of this and the National As
sociation. and with other data that
may lie of assistance in carrying out
the purposes of the organization and
affiliation with th < e national body.
Florence is a small hut growing city
and its wide-awake people are setting
the pace for other cities in that sec
tion. Savannah recently furnished
Florence a secretary for its Chamber
of Commerce in the person of Walter
Johnson, who for several years was
city editor of the Savannah Press.
Mr Johnson has taken hold of his
new work with a firm hand and al
ready is making progress in the line
of getting the business men of Flor
ence to work in close co-opernt<on for
the upbuilding of the town through
the Chamber <»f Commerce.—The
