These will b» the ba sis of tax assessments for 1921. There ure approximately fifteen thousand merchants in the state, to all of whom the tax commission is sending the blank stock statements. The merchants are required to. giv* iufonnation as to the nature of thetr business; the amount of inventory? merchandise received and sales mace l ince last inventory and prior to Jan uary 1, 1921; the value of goods on consignment; the amount of notes an» accounts payable at actual value; the true value of merchandise and fix tures January 1; the amouht of insur ance carried; gross sales for ‘igw; the name of partners in a n^riruir.si^.n and the names of offloers ih a corpo ration; the capital stock and the sur plus accrued. All of this information i: sworn to. The tax commission will fix assess ments on the basis of the information lumLsbed by the merchants them- selv.es. If any fail fj furnish tne necessary data, it is stated, the com mission will take legal steps to re quire them to produce their records. The law requires this. The tax commission is advising all merchants that the fair market value will be the basis of assessments. Each merchant is asked to advise the com- mision whether he makes his state ment on the basis of cost or mark** value. The assessments for taxation are made on the basis of forty-two pe- cent of the true value of property. GARDENS WORTH MONEY Connellsville.
