Our contemporary, the Reform Advocate, has, in its issue of the 15th, this reference to us in its editorial “A Fraud Exposed.” “To do this it is only necessary to say that, at the request of the author, we handed the article to the junior enitor ol the Tin-: Times for publication last Wednesday after noon, and he positively refused to publish it as it wur against the in terests of his candidate, who coul not get a reply in the weekly Tlnjes before the primary. On the same occasion we told him that the Advocate was l '.te ,,T And again: “His circular (DuBose’s) aj peared in The Times Monday a ternoon, notwithstanding its scruj ulous refusal to publish “Taxpay er’s” article the week before!” We simply have this to say The editor of the Advocate die come to us, late Wednesday after noon, with a mild request to pub lish the article referred to and in dicated by his language and man ner that he did not have a hearty * desire to publish it himself. Wi did decline to publish it, for several reasons; me that it at tacked a candidate without oppor tunity to him to make answer to county subscriber. ; another, that it was a long oriole, our weekly was made up, except small space for important items, and, then and there, we spoke of the inconven ience its publication by us would entail. The Advocate says, “as it was against the interests of bis (our) candidate.” We were then in the language of the Advocate called upon to publish to the country an attack upon our “own candidate.” Would- the Advocate, mutati* w ii to ml in, have acted differently frutu us. Again, Mr. Dubose’s circular did not appear in the Dailv Timkb and the Advocate should correct the impression ma le. Mr. Dubose did publish a sboit article in the Times on the eve of the election, containing figures used in the circu lar, but no language was employed that could give ofh nse to the Advo- cate or its candidate, Mr. McTag gart, or the author of the article. THE COt/BT. From what wo can hear, it has been very hard, tho present term of the BHssioni, to secure convio- tious for certain violations of the dispensary law. Tho progress of the court has been slow and bis Honor, Judge Buchanan, has had trouble with the “immortal twelve.” Mistrials and acquittals have resulted in al most every easo where the subject was a drinkable one, even in the face, we are told, of plain testi mony. It is trite, bat true that public opinion must rise to the level of the law before it can be enforced. This institution of twelve men in a box has always been hard to handle and always will be. When they see fit, tlmy decide on the law and on the ^a.ts Mod it is useless to say "anything. \wd while fur, periods uf tun ■, the law may suffer and offen ds may abound, still, tho o.d n.siitu- tion is the great safeguard of our liberties and is hire to stay atid we venerate it. I recommended an internal preparation— known as botanic Blood Balm, (b. b. b.), which I have been using and selling ; she used three bottles and all pimples have disappeared; her skin is soft and smooth and her general health much improved.
