"We have received the prospec tus of Ciemson College for ’97-98, which certainly contains much in formation of interest even to those who are not patrons of this insti tution. Ciemson is destined to become, as it is more thoroughly known, one of the greatest institu tions of this country. The educa tion of the hand in connection with that of the mind is of prime importance in this practical, utili tarian age, and when a student has finished bis course he is well able to begin the battle for bread in the trade, vocation or profes sion,* to which his natural bent inclines, and to which he has es pecially directed his education. One criticism, however, ( we can not fail to make. The catalogue bears the imprint of a firm be yond the borders of the State, whereas, with the excellent print ing firms within our own borders, it seems aa if something were rac- jcally wrong with those who have this particular matter in charge A local institution should ac knowledge the facilities of the section which gives it life in be stowing patronage, thus showing to the world, as this instance would show, that the printing fa cilities of South Carolina are equal at least to those of neighboring States.
